Hi Ty,

This is the tool I was told to use, by one of the Moderators at DNForum. I've just rechecked the figures, and according to this tool, they are right.

https://adwords.google.com/o/Target...000&ideaRequestType=KEYWORD_STATS#search.none

If it's wrong and these figures are US based, then they are still OK for anyone who wants to use the domain for Darlington USA, and this domain has been listed in the Other/Non UK Domains part of Acorn Domains.

I hope this helps.

Cheers.

Jaffaman

@ Jaffaman, those figures 823,000 and 550,000 are the same given by the Google keyword tool here:

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal?forceLegacy=true

The 823,000 and 550,000 aren't the exacts, those are the 'broad' search results, the exacts are the 14,8000 quoted by Ty. When using the tool on the link I posted, after entering the term to search for and hitting submit, you'll then notice in the left hand menu a section called Match types, by default it's set to the broad setting, untick that box and tick exact, the figures will then automatically change to show the exact results.

When it's on the broad setting, it returns results for where the word Darlington has been used in multiple word string searches, like if someone typed this term in to the Google search, 'where can I find Darlington train times'. The exact setting shows result for when people have typed just 'Darlington'.

So it's only really exact terms when related to UK domains rather than broad settings that matter. This is a .tv so the UK part isn't important, but the exact settings are as important as when looking for exacts.

[edit]

Just to add, the exact figures for people in the US searching for 'Darlington' is way below people in the UK searching for the same term, below shows the keyword tool when set to United States or UK

Locations:United States
[darlington] = 2,900 exacts

Locations:United Kingdom
[darlington] = 14,800 exacts

So, what's the difference with the tool I was advised to use, and simply typing Darlington into a Google Search Box, which returns 18,200,000 & 7.400,000 results respectively? Even if I use "Darlington"in a Google Search Box, the results are the same!

Why is the tool I'm using, narrowing the broad search for Darlington, down from the figures returned by a direct Google search, if both sets of results are for a broad search of Darlington?

And, if this domain is used for a Business Directory, then loads more Darlington keywords such as Darlington Plumbers, Darlington Property, Darlington Taxis and so on would also be relevant to, and in use by Darlington.TV!

Not being picky, just puzzled.

I am trying to accurately describe this domain name, by using a recommended tool, otherwise I would have simply posted the massive search result figures.

Cheers

Jaffaman.

the 'exact' keyword tool if i'm not wrong displays the results where someone has searched for Darlington exactly and gives a 14800 volume on the UK location.

google on the other hand is displaying you ALL the pages in its inventory with the word 'darlington'

open to corrected if wrong

I agree entirely with this opinion, but because the Google Search Box returns the huge figures it returns for Darlington that it does, I assumed that the much smaller figures that I got, when I used the tool that was recommended to me as the "standard exact search tool" by someone on DNForum, that these were the exact search results.

That's why I posted them.

If the domain is to be used as a Darlington Community Site/Business Directory, then the exact searches would hardly matter, as users would be attracted to it by local means, and not by finding it through an exact search on Google.

There seems to be a lot of opinions on this domain, by people who are unlikely to even be interested in it though.

No doubt there will be more.

Anyway, I do agree with you, and am obviously not an authority on Exact Searches, but I am learning, through these comments.

Cheers.

Jaffaman.
