Usually I report any comments in a sales thread, as I consider them highly unprofessional.
I will make an exception now, and will try to answer your question, and summarize up as much as possible all the pros and the cons of this domain. I do this because I received mixed reviews on this kind of domain.
So what are the pros of this domain:
- while the country population is not big (having slightly more than 100.000 persons), it is an important fact that the country attracts tourists. You can visit
http://www.visit-kiribati.com for more information. A Kiribati travel website accompanying this domain may be a good deal.
- There is no need to argue that there are not that much countries in the world. Also .info serves very well Geo domains. This is a certain plus.
- the resolution 01.93 (adopted 10 September 2001), ICANN made a decision to reserve all country.info domains to the respective countries' governments: ( see decision
here)
So unless you are not the Government of Kiribati you cannot own kiribati.info, as it is a reserved domain
- Republic Of Kiribati is not reserved (and can be purchased here), but it is the official name of the country (see links in my first post).
- when someone makes a site, the domain name must inspire credibility. travel-in-kiribati.com does not inspire credibility. I think (and many fellow domainers I spoke with agree on this) the domain inspires credibility. It is easy to remember.
- it is easy to develop, as I mentioned before, there can be a travel site, a news site (unlikely with Kiribati), or an informational portal. Content can be found everywhere and a site can be made easily.
- I almost forgot to mention, Republic Of kiribati has a 204 Overture score. Also, 3985 overture results for Kiribati, 139 for Kiribati map, 128 for Hotel Kiribati, 50 for Kiribati vacation etc. (Note: These results are based on January 2007 Overture stats. I assume that they are higher now, since it is summer season)
Cons:
- even if it is official, it is a bit long. It is still memorable though.
- The .info is the second choice after .com. The .com would be awesome. But Geo domains are proven to work excellent with .info.
Some other things:
Unfortunately I do not have any sales data of country.info domains because of that ICANN decision. But country.com were doing really well (Iran.com for $400.000, Malta.com for $250.000). Still we cannot compare .com to .info .
SouthKorea.info and NorthKorea.info, though made it though the ICANN decision, and are now for sale on another forum, buyer wants $14.500 for each. If you are interested in that, PM me and I give you the link.
If you want countries with more population, I also have for sale (though not for that cheap) other similar domains:
RepublicOfIndonesia.info ( the 4th biggest country in the world with more than 200 million population) ... this should exceed you MSN contacts .... Indonesia also has 107.845 OVT results. Also have:
KingdomOfNorway.info,
RepublicOfIceland.info
RepublicOfSlovenia.info
and even a .com:
StateOfNepal.com and StateOfNepal.info (though I won't sell it till the political situation there will clear up during the November elections and the new constitution will be voted, so that Nepal will not be anymore a Kingdom, but a State).
Oh, and $99 is really not expensive. It is a bargain really. And next times do not comment in sales thread as it is unpolite and unprofessional (in my point of view).
Best wishes for everybody,
Alex
PS: Sorry for any typos, but it is 6AM and I am in a hurry
