Hi,

I have been looking at the forum as a guest for a couple of days now and it seems like a really good place to find out info. Just wondered what the general opinion of .co addresses was. Many people had success with them?

I have taken the plunge and registered a couple including

bestgift.co

I have a couple of ther generic ones that I have also managed to get the .co.uk ones of too. Appreciate any feedback, cheers

My advice would always be to steer clear of ccTLDs unless you live in or are targeting that country.

ie. if you're looking to sell gifts to the people of Columbia that's fine

haha! Love it! I wonder what they'd like?!

Thanks for the advice, it may be a lesson learnt...

One thing to keep in mind with .co, is that the extension came into existence late in the "domain game". That means established domainers already know what all the top generic terms are, so these will have been snapped up from the off. If you are regging a generic free to reg now, it's unlikely to be that valuable because it would have been regged by experienced domains at the start.

There may be opportunities, but they will be rare. If you are regging to sell the domain on, take things very slowly, and try to make a sale before you reg too many. If you are regging for dev, then that's different, but don't overestimate how quickly you can build sites ;)

there does appear to be an active aftermarket for .co domains. it also helps that many registrars have started listing them either near the top of the available extensions or with the gtlds so can see it becoming a fairly stable and viable alternative.

They have practically zero value to end users to sell on to. If BobsBicycleShop found his .co.uk taken and had a burning desire to own a .co domain he would already have registered it for £10 and not want to pay the £500 or £600 a domainer would invariably want for it.

Generally true, but Google sees .co as a generic top level.

So buying .cos can be a good idea. I'm in the process of testing to see if they do rank as well as suggested.

I maybe a newbie but I’m loving the .co’s I’ve had many now PR1 with very little work, I personally think Google want this extension to succeed as all mine fly up the ranks!
If you’re going to develop a domain then I’d say YES buy .co’s no doubt if the .com / .co.uk are gone then id opt straight for the .co this is just from my experience over the last 2 years.
Google absolutely loves .CO’s
It’s simple they are here to stay! No doubt prices will rise over the next couple of years
The big killer would of been renewals prices but at £6.00 a pop at go daddy id say for development 110% yes.
