Wanted: Domain Catches I would like....

Would it be a good idea to have a thread where people who have missed catches can express an interest in buying them from the registrants? I'm usually beaten on catches but don't always follow up with the registrant to see if a quick deal can be made.

Perhaps a rule could be that a post must be made within 72 hours of the drop so that it doesn't get out of control? Just a thought.

Anyway, I'll make a start, I'm interested in

this is correct - after the drop and once its reg'd then you'd use the whois to contact and make an offer - i dont see any need to complicate it?

if the owner wants a quick turn around - thats up to them, as it would be in any case.

Domainlore definitely an option, but I think a thread would be a good complement to it. Look at the amount of posts on the whois section for people who can't find the owners of sites. Also, there might be a day where there is 10 drops I'd like, not likely to have the time to email ten different people or look them up. They may or may not be here, but I'll take the chance.

I would say that it would be after the domain has been caught rather than publicising the ones you want, esp as they might still be free to reg at some point.

I think its a good idea, sometimes people want to do a quick deal rather than submit to domainlore and wait for the auction to run out.

Re admin's question - I'm sure for some the sheer volume they catch means they don't always post straight away and people are keenest when the drop is fresh. It also might persuade a domainer who was going to park or to develop to sell if they can get the right kind of offer?

I also think this is an excellent idea. It's a lot different from placing an advanced bid at DL.

1. You aren't advertising to every dropcatcher that you want x domain = less competition = more likely to catch via public catchers @ a fixed £15 - £40 fee.

2. Some buyers don't want to mess around with auctions.

3. Some sellers don't want to list names for sale on a public forum, but that doesn't necessary mean they wouldn't be interested in selling.

Not sure separate forum category is required but a dedicated thread would be a good idea, imo - I'd certainly use it.

I agree it is a good idea. It may be a while before the new owner has time to put the freshly caught domain up for auction or list it on here. If they receive immediate interest it may lead to a sale they might have otherwise missed further down the line.

The downside is that you may get the SEs to index domains that the owner doesn't want indexed, so perhaps the new forum (if created) should be hidden away from prying eyes...
