Bit of an odd one this, can't see them winning.

"UDRP Filed on The 25 Year Old Domain Name Cambridge.com By University of Cambridge"

Nice to see Mr Thornton has joined in the debate @ thedomains.com, but I fear he is flogging a dead 'un. Love some of the comments though...

1.) The domain has been registered for 25 years.

er...nope, Creation Date: 1992-09-21

University of Cambridge does not even own Cambridge.edu

doh....I wonder why?

University of Cambridge has an endowment of £4.9 billion (2013). They clearly could have purchased this domain

presumably for £4.8 billion.

Get in the hole!

OK, so I made the last one up. Oh why won't these voices in my head stop taunting me? Why...?

The result will be interesting, 2 points against them would be the time it has taken for them to bother taking any action and there is city call Cambridge outside of Boston.

I'd say they'll lose this one. Will be interesting to see the outcome given I have a geo (but not on a .com).

Anyway the site shows 2 versions one for Cambridge US and Cambridge UK, nice idea putting across the dual location to back up their case it can be applied to both countries, also the ads will likely use your IP and show the most relevant results, the US ads will likely be different.

You dont have to prove exclusive rights, just rights. An if you think how many people in the USA will want to go to Cambridge UK, any dual ad serving is going to be a weak defence.

If they win, it means anyone holding a city name domain can lose it just because some authority as decided they like the name. I'll stick with them losing.

I don't know how long the process takes, but I guess it could drag out.

But it's beyond the domain name to the content on their site

Would they have tried this if they hadn't put educational related stuff like selling online courses on the site? I doubt it

That I know of they haven't tried a DRS against Cambridge.co.uk and that process I believe is more simple and cheaper than .com is

^ But the co.uk site you couldn't confuse to being related to the University.
