Bleak Midwinter...

Wasn't mentioning the specifics of climate change but why would you listen to someone's predictions of something in 50 years when they can't get 3 months correct.

Climate and weather are different things.

Have a nose at Met Office: Climate projections and associated pages - the first two sentances on that site hardly duck the point.

As I said in another thread, I thought the debate was down to the causes (ie. natural cycles v man) rather than if its some global tax conspiracy con!

Do you honestly believe it is as sean says hype dreamt up by a global group to ensure a new wave of tax or the like?

Things is though mate the ice is not retreating, Nasa's own satelites show it's not and there is more ice now than in the last 30 years.

Ok - quick google, New NASA Satellite Survey Reveals Dramatic Arctic Sea Ice Thinning - NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory

Story from July 2009 entitled "New NASA Satellite Survey Reveals Dramatic Arctic Sea Ice Thinning"

Using ICESat measurements, scientists found that overall Arctic sea ice thinned about 0.17 meters (7 inches) a year, for a total of 0.68 meters (2.2 feet) over four winters. The total area covered by the thicker, older "multi-year" ice that has survived one or more summers shrank by 42 percent.

Previously, scientists relied only on measurements of area to determine how much of the Arctic Ocean is covered in ice, but ICESat makes it possible to monitor ice thickness and volume changes over the entire Arctic Ocean for the first time.

Science gets better, understanding gets better.

Where does NASA say its not and there is more than there was 30 years ago?

You want to see someone who can predict the weather, have a look at the guy who predicts it by observing sun spots, he's been banned from william hill for winning bets on his predictions, not sure you can say that about climate warriors.

Never heard that - my google search came up with this thread no 1 , and propagandamatrix a close second - who have a donation area 'to keep the truth alive' :) I grew out of the x files when I was 16.

Any primary source of that?

For me their is a debate whether the weather is cyclical or permanent. If you start to observe the weather over on extreme of that cycle then that is going to stand up for certain people's theories, where the same figures across the full cycle will show something else, but ultimately there is still a debate on is this cyclical, how big is the cycle, how long and how extreme are the events in it?

I personally think it's a con to keep countries like India, african countries and China from overtaking the western countries in GDP. So for that reason I'm all for it.

But as a pragamatic person I hate it, I thought we left this type of behaviour alone back in the 1700's when we were hanging witches. The main thing that seperates our society from that of the 1700's and dunking old women with warts is "proof". Al Gore the witch finder general making money for every witch he finds. Did you know be buys carbon credits to cover his big mansion and air travel, or wait, he buys them off his own company:rolleyes:

Proof in my book is the ability to recreate or predict and thos epredictions come true, none of those has even been completed by man made climate change believers.

Sorry story relates to antartic ice sheets, Report: Antarctic Ice Growing, Not Shrinking - Science News | Science & Technology | Technology News - FOXNews.com

Global Warming Hoax: News / Comments / Antarctic Sea Ice For December 1979 verses December 2008

I'm surprised you've not seen that guy who talks about sun spots on the news, he keeps taunting the socalled scientists and yet no one ever debates with him:rolleyes:

I'll see if i can get his name, he looks like the guy who designed beagle 2.

But when you say you grew out of crazy theories when you were 16 as if I still believe in them, you are missing the point. It's you that are believing in something that doesn't exist until you proof it, not me not believing in something until I disprove it.

For anyone that ever wants to study sunspots v man made climate change believers who of course predicted last year as a barbecue summer

Sunspots, From the mid 1600s to early 1700s, a period of very low sunspot activity (known as the Maunder Minimum) coincided with a number of long winters and severe cold temperatures in Western Europe, called the Little Ice Age.

There are no sun spots in 2008 / 2009 and look at the last 2 winters through the northern hemisphere.

The missing sunspots: Is this the big chill? - Science, News - The Independent

Take a look out of the window and ask yourself who you believe?

You said NASA's images prove otherwise, so I went to NASA and they disagreed.

You counter that quoting globalwarminghoax.com and Foxnews.com, two bastions of impartiality, claiming NASA is rubbish now.

That bloke might be banned from the bookies (cant find that quoted anywhere apart from forums that also claim mossad blew up the faked moon landings) but you aint - go make some ££££!!!!

They were the first two on google, so how about nasa themselves

NASA - NASA Ice Campaign Takes Flight in Antarctica

Rob have a look at the dates on these predictions http://messageboards.sky.com/ThreadView.aspx?ThreadId=10734 , they were right your met office was wrong wrong wrong. Your attitude seems to be ignoring science and going into hysterical rhetoric.

but you quote the met office, haha (barbecue summer yippee with a mild winter)

I think we need to agree to disagree and let people believe what they want

(oh by the way, read the last post of that page I just gave you)

damn. I only said it was snowing...

as Harry Hill says. 'There's only one way to sort it....FIGHT!'

People need to wise up it's a hoax it's been proven times and tome again..

There is no more climate change than a thousand years ago.

Next thing they will be saying breathing air is getting limited and we will need to pay tax on it..

Again.. "don't believe the hype"

The earths mass keeps changing has done for millions of years.. Now they call it climate change so they can extort more money from us.

Who are 'they' ?

it is chucking it down here, covered in the white stuff!!
another day tomorrow stuck inf ront of this friggin computer

What is it about this weather that brings out the stupid. Especially motorists who seem not to be able to adapt to a water (flooded engines in foot high water) and then skidding around like mad in the snow. Fair enough i don't have to drive around, so I won't but i'm amazed by how inept people are becoming.

Little snowy story for you...
So i popped into the local co-op yesterday. When i was going in i noticed a chap walking up the road in football boots. Clever he thinks, they will make mincemeat of the snowy conditions. Unfortunately after entering the co-op and traversing the welcome mat he hit his watery grave and slipped on the polished wet floor. Went flying under the bread counter and yelled like a little girl. I looked around to see loaves of bread falling on his head. Best thing i've seen in years. Note to self: don't go shopping in footy boots. :p

Interesting read - forecast for jan is good:

"This means that snow due on 5/6th in England will not be the
10inches* tops predicted by Met Office but more like 2 Feet."

Not seen anywhere in england with 24 inches, but plenty with 5-6 etc.

Frid 8th & weekend 9/10th are likely to suffer
even greater blizzards & snow deluges

Even 105 Crap FM local radio was saying 'its going to get worse over the weekend' and by the forcast given he thinks it will be 2-3 times as bad as predicted.

It would be worth paying the £96 for the forecasts surely as you can still place bets?

however as he says: In 4,000 Weather Test Bets over 12 years with William Hill, Weather Action forecasts made a profit of some 40% (£20,000). The Odds were statistically fair and set by the Met Office before being shortened by William Hill by a standard 20%; the results were then provided by the Met Office for William Hill to settle each bet. Piers Corbyn was excluded by the bookies from such account betting in 2000.

4000 bets returning £20k over 12 years?
Averaged that would mean each bet made a fiver, with 333 bets a year.

Each bet having to be set by the Met Office AND by William Hill, then have the Met Office provide the data to WillHill to settle it?

Who pays for the met office to provide such data in that volume? Ah.

Likewise you mention Al Gore has interests in carbon trading companies, but this bloke has a massive interest as well as he sells this data so there is zero incentive to point out when its wrong :)

I will keep an eye on the forecasts, and hope there isnt 20 inches of snow in the next 10 hrs!!

Did he get up and say "This floor hasn't been gritted"

Did he get up and say "This floor hasn't been gritted"

People have been complaining that grit is being 'stolen' from the grit boxes... which is odd in this weather :)

Contrary to what is often said, why does it come as a surprise that we get caught out by this type of weather? Snow isn't actually a common occurrence in the UK; we're hardly expected to be like Canada, with obligatory snow chains and a full set of spares in the boot!
Yes, it's a bit off to hear that your local authority is running out of salt, but other than that, this is nothing more than an odd weather glitch, Dickensian snow falls were never as common as those pretty Christmas cards make out anyway!
