I completely respect what you're saying but it sounds like you completely overthink and dig into things way too much and it's getting in the way of the reality of domains and operating a business on domains.

Fast forward 10 years. Every website is just an combo of AI, Iot, Big Data, Blockchain as these techs eventually converge, it's like that scene in the movie AI by Spielberg. No subsections, no links, no 'departments', at that point 'CPC' and rest of it become meaningless, just the AI interface. You can apply for things, find things, book appointments, deal with local law, issues, no more click click click. All of those concepts we are used to now become redundant. The AI is too efficient. At this point i'm saying the only digital 'asset' not subject to not just yearly evolution but hourly evolution [- why because the code by definition of AI can now start writing it's own code in real time, we are already there] - will be your address in this case 'Blackpool'. That's it. Rest is automated and maintained by faceless engineers and techs you never see or interact with. If Doctors, Lawyers need to be looking over their shoulders because AI is already proven to better at diagnosing, and interpreting law for examples, then SEO experts are way ahead of the queue for where AI has it's targets set. They'll be the first to go.

Now you may say i'm over thinking but many say 10 years is way too much of an overestimate, could be 5 years, could be 3 years. And all I'm saying is it's happened before. Overnight change. You wake up and things simply don't work the way they used to anymore.

Anyway I don't wish to comment any further and all the best of luck with the sale Edwin.

feel a bit bad for the seller that this thread is becoming an appraisal thread when he is trying to make sales? or am i missing something

I would be inclined to feel the same but think Edwin opened the door himself when he asked "Is there really so little interest in this?"

Nothing to see here.

I like geo domains - in fact, they're the main reason I got into domains in the first place. But I do feel like they're massively overvalued. They invariably end up as either an amateur looking "business directory" which nobody wants to use, or they require a full time staff to keep updated enough to maintain any kind of engagement.

I'm still trying to develop my own take on the segment, but even if it's successful I don't believe I could develop it enough to justify paying these prices for the domain. Which is a shame, because Blackpool is one of the main areas I want to develop. I look forward to some healthy competition with the eventual winner :)

I can't help but disagree, Martin. I don't understand why a UK town wouldn't value a UK domain more? The .COM is a good one, but I'd argue that the .co.uk has more upside potential with developments than a .COM. Is it just me who thinks that .COM looks a bit shit for UK business? Perhaps I'm bias.
Why? Because Nominet have royally screwed up .uk by adding confusion and complexity. I would prefer a .com even in the UK now.

And don't forget the international tourism audience.

Ireland.com
Jersey.com
Glasgow.com
Wales.com
Blackpool.com

We do get above ourselves a bit with the love of .co.uk and need a reality check.

The above smash any .co.uk to bits from a global authority perspective in this specific niche. I've been geo domaining for 20 years I can tell you right now potential advertisers and users don't need geo.com explaining - it's instant credibility, they also get geo.co.uk, when I tried geo.uk I got WTF questions or tumbleweed in return - had more success with geo.org.uk of course that may change but it won't be overnight.

.uk is still new, I like it, the younger crowd here are enthusiastic about it which is great, but for the tourism industry it's still too soon, the UK small to medium b&b/guest house/hotelier industry is already about 8 years behind.

All this really depends on target audience / target advertisers...

But, writing-off .uk so prematurely will prove to be unwise

For geos, I would buy the .uk over the .co.uk even if they were the same price!

I think all of these offer a great foundation for creating a Blackpool site. Given the option I'd probably opt for the .com, but there's a good case for all of them being more or most well suited of forward thinking.

Ok put my 10 bucks into this with regards Geo domains. Ok lets talk about Blackpool Yes its a seaside resort with great beaches, has theme parks that attract visitors to location has a lot going for it. but its not Vegas. It has gameing machine arcades taking up about 70% of the shoreline. Once you move back from main road into side streets its full of low end hotels, guesthouses, and B&bs, and lots doss houses in location. It still has plenty of visitors. The problem is not the domain the problem is the page that is up promoting blackpool should be updated to show the good side of the town.

Edwin this year I walked all the streets of Glasgow talking pictures of every retailer, hotel, and business. if you want Blackpool.com to stand out Visit the place and trust your own judgement get to know those people who will like what you have and support you with it. You have to put some passion and care into the domain when your building it out. When comes to UK most business dont get domains your trying to sell to people who would rather spend £200,000 on logo design with a brand new $10,00 domain. thats what your up against.

Been there done it 20 years later people still dont get domains. WE are revamping the glasgow.com network we have over 100 other Glasgow related domains, same time have @glasgow twitter account and Linkedin Group Glasgow. The people who should get it local councils, goverment trade bodys, tourism org do not get domains. I wish you all best with Blackpool.com a person developing this out correct would have to basically spend 1 year to 2 years in and around the location building a top class site from 0 - full capasity.

Edwin visit blackpool for week walk the streets and observe the good bits and the bad bits. only then you can see if its a fantastic domain in your eyes and worth the hard work to make it a success. Then you have to work out if yor building a site is it a tourism site or advertising platform. If you want to talk about it be happy give more thoughts on it.

[hopes this debate lasts another year, then I might get a chance to end it... assuming asking price holds]

don't mind me fellas. :)
