Best Server type to run a epp dac drop catching script?

Really greatful for your replys here.

It would seem unless a goal is set...

i.e first goal being a script which is tested against public catchers, to see if the script can beat the public catchers is agreed it would be a huge risk.

So would it be a bit safer if a depoist was paid say £1000.00

Testing against private catcher before final payment and then a bonus on top of the £1500.00 if it can beat the private catchers?

Be greatful to hear your thoughts...

From a non-technical point of view, I would agree with you, however, from a technical point of view, there are many variables, how do you objectively test this? Unless you have equal hardware & equal network connectivity (which I guess none of the catch systems are on identical setups) you don't have a valid test.

If you can get someone to agree, excellent - go for it, personally I'd pay less up front as I see it as a big risk with your lack of technical skill.

Thank you very much for your reply...

Very valid points and as you no your stuff and been in the game a long time I am greatful for your time in posting.

I hope I can help in the seo section at some stage, as i am very greatful for peoples time in replying here.

No matter what I do??? I will for sure have goals that will be agreed opon before signing off anything.

Once you do have a good script and its competitive, most of the effort will be researching and deciding what to load each day. ;)

Computers took up the space of a small office and had green screen terminals in those days :) Now a VAX is a floor cleaner and the smartphone on my belt has many times more computing power than the combined capabilities of all the VAXes, Sun workstations & ICL Unix boxes I used to manage.

The process of software testing has more or less been thrown out these days, much cheaper to release code and then issue a release 2, 3, 4... as issues are discovered.

That will be the easy bit :) I feel... I would only poll one domain a day with a few back ups.. and poll for 7 hours of the day.

My gut feeling is, you wouldn't walk away with much using that strategy, even if you had a top script.

Anything with a hint of value will be loaded somewhere else scanning for most of the day.

I would try my hand using a providers script on a monthly basis before spending large on buying or getting a script made.

Not a bad idea, who's offering script rentals these days? I only know about Caroline, Dale and Droppr.co.uk (only just found the last one, not sure which Tags are using it).

Can I ask why please? I see a risk you might poll the wrong time of the day upside you can poll at quite a few times a second... say you set the rate a 90mls as I would be using the real time dac and a lot of the big catchers would be using the time delay dac??? With a much larger dac quota I would say at a guess this would be needed to be competitive?

Using the time delay dac? And not the real time dac like me...

All the above is of course just my hear say, no facts...

I have been give details of dates of drops and times by someone who has used a provider’s script and how they got on and at what rates they polled and what worked best.

Shop around, most are on month by month basis or at least giving one months notice.

I would avoid services where the service owner catches for themselves, as to remove any potential conflict of interest. .e.g. cherry picking loaded lists, sending registration requests based on your polling data.

As the drops are random, if you poll for seven hours only you will luck out with domains dropping outside your polling time(s).

Will need to do some shopping around, unfortunately due to the secret nature of catching it's difficult to get reviews on which systems are still successful at actually obtaining domains. Out of interest do you rent a script or have you developed your own?

It's likely I will need to test a few out anyway to see what works best, but if you wouldn't mind giving me a mini review via PM of any you have tried already it would be appreciated (if not I understand completely :))
