Google change and update their algorithm all the time, why are you afraid of something that happens every other day? Google are always trying to improve their search service

I never said that small updates effect a large number of websites, obviously, logically, the larger the update the larger the amount of websites it's going to affect.Eh? Before this affects a huge number of websites in a single blow, something you don't see on smaller regular updates.
I'm fully aware of that, play by the rules or run the risk! If you want to try blackhat techniques then you have to deal with the risk of being penalised, if you run a legitimate website and you've been hit by any kind of search update I do feel sorry for you but if you website followed the guidelines then you shouldn't have any problems - I haven't beenYou asked "why be afraid". These annual events literally bankrupt and cause job losses. Why wouldn't webmasters be worried?
Totally agree with Monkey hereIf you're afraid, you're probably doing it wrong.
We all know its an algorithm thats coming again at some point.... you should really be planning around it being positive for you and looking forward to it.
And Skinner, I don't tweak my website around Google, or bother listening to the latest fast ranking link building techniques. This is why I don't pander to google, and avoid any suspect methods, slowly but surely wins the race. Unless your style is churn and burn, then slow the hell down and let them bring all the pandas in asia and all the penguins in the arctic
the https thing has the potential to be a good one, and I think google will give them more love.
It seems to be rolling out right about now...
