Hi all.

I'm new to this board, so apologies if I'm doing this wrong.

I'd be interested on any expert opinion on the value of domain rateit.co.uk as there has been a bit of interest in it the past couple of weeks...

Any thoughts, or do I need to provide more info?

Thanks
Dave

It's quite a good domain for a reviews type site. I think reviews.co.uk was sold for a significant amount in the past, see domainprices.co.uk to get comparisons. Gut feeling is definitely some not-insignificant value here.

Agree. Not an insignificant domain name at all. The art is in the building of it

Thanks to both of you for the feedback. I'm intruigued by 'the art is in the building of it' - does that mean that you think I should put something on the site myself, or buld a case for selling it?

Neither of you have given a concrete value, but I wonder whether you think this is more or less valuable than another domain name I sold 2 years ago, which was innovate.co.uk ?

Thanks again

It's like many of us who hold domains with potential. They are worth much more 'built' and with traffic and ranking. Otherwise they stay on the shelf at non-developed prices like most of mine for my pension fund. A name developed is a name potentially monetised. Otherwise it stays on a wholesalers' list.

The question of valuation depends as ever on the following:

Value: Wholesale with no site?
Value: Developed with income and traffic?

This one worth developing IMHO, especially for product reviews.

Thanks for this - I really hadn't imagined that anyone interested in the domain might also be interested in a website behind it. I have always imagined that buyers would have a plan of their own for the domain name, but you seem to suggest this isn't necessarily the case - I clearly still have much to learn :)

For info, I sold innovate.co.uk 3 years ago for £10,000 with nothing at all behind it - do you think I could have got significantly more with a website behind it?

Thanks again - really interesting

TBH, I'd not really considered the value in putting a site behind the domain - I assumed that people buying domain names would already have their own plans, and be largely unaffected by what has been there previously...

Really interesting - thanks. Using this metric, was I lucky to get £10,000 for innovate.co.uk (domain name only) or do you reckon I missed out by not developing?

Cheers for your time
Dave

Stick a joomla site on it, hook up a mod called jreviews and within 24 hours and little html skills, you have a site ready to go and "rate things".

Personally I'd say around £400-£500 undeveloped, only because there are some good names not selling at the moment. If you want to sell something now, unless it's a top top name or a developed site, value's are low at minute.
