memory.co.uk

This is our first major exploitation of a top tier domain name and more particularly the results of some considerable wrestling with the immense Amazon datafeed.

Would appreciate any feedback.

Anyone out there considering working with Amazon's data should go for it if you have the technical stamina. The quality of the data is excellent and once you've got one site up and running, it makes it relatively easy to create similar offerings around their products.

Many thanks

Ben

Excellent.

Clean, crisp, with very clear navigation right through to Amazon. A real pleasure to see someone using design skills effectively to exploit a top tier domain such as this.

It would be very interesting to compare the conversion rate to a full ecommerce site with the same structure and quality domain. (Mind you, in the case of memory, I would hate to have to stock it, the way it depreciates is frightening.)

Would also love to know how much such a quality domain cost you, but thats just me being nosey

[Seems to be a glitch in the search somewhere, if I select MicroSD it defaults to all, but shows only 4 results. If I then further click 4Gb on the java size selector at the top it shows 6 4Gb. If I then click All again, the 4Gb disappear and it shows just the 4 results again. You are probably aware of the problem, but just in case - I'm using IE7 with Java on, under Vista]

Hi Ben,

Firstly its a good domain. well done for getting it and actually developing it.

Sites looks nice, clean.

I like it

good luck

Great idea.
Crucial ad banners are going to kill your conversions and time on site.
Some pages have malformed text

"SO-DIMM SDRAM – which stands for Small Outline Dual In-line Memory Module Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory – is a type of computer memory mainly used in small applications such as laptops. DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 SDRAM SO-DIMMs are available with a range of numbers of pins and clock speeds."

SO-DIMM SDRAM :: Memory.co.uk

But the system is great. Package it up and sell the idea and make more cash with the platform, or rinse and repeat into other markets or make spin off sites for LaptopMemory, ComputerMemory etc to broaden the net and give you a wider reach.

Also, if you can, get some squeeze pages in there somewhere to grab emails and start building a list. If someone is buying memory, they may well be open to some emails about a nice new computer in a couple of months ;) Or some software to 'speed up the computer without buying more ram' ;) Cleanup tools etc.

Anyway, good site, nice idea, well worked. Congrats.

Excellent name and nice site, would bin the adsense no point making pennies from clicks when %age per order can be had.

Good work :)

Cheers,
Rob.

(who needs to give you a ring, if this is ben!)

These are v instructive

All very salient points, thanks.

Although the adsense does well, of course it will be denying revenue via the Amazon commissions. Also, yes the Crucial banner is pretty lame.

We're working on a memory configurator so people can drill down specific memory types for specific systems. As you may imagine the data is a bit of a nightmare in that respect and building ones own useful one is a fairly piecemeal affair, depending, as we are seeming to do, on incremental data from amazon resellers who have specific product/memory items listed.

If you see what i mean! Not sure I even do 0- better ask Mat our developer!
