What do people think of this one? I'm looking at it from the angle of 'physical appearance'. There's surely potential to appeal to advertisers in various areas relating to appearance (hairloss, dental work, cosmetic surgery, beauty treatments) and so on...

go for the celeb angle:

celebrity book signings, shopping centres, openings, fetes
pop groups etc at night clubs and record shops
turning on lights (christmas & blackpool etc)

you'd have to dig for the info mind you.

Yeah, I was going to say celeb angle too.

If you started a site promoting celeb appearances, I'm sure you'd get traffic, although how valuable that traffic would be I'm not sure.

That was my concern too, as lots of general entertainment sites don't exactly command a premium advertising-wise unless traffic is significant.

I've sold lots of text links to casino/bingo companies before, for good amounts, and I quite like the idea of branching out in another direction using that same principle. I figure that if I can rank well for a few appearance related terms then the traffic will come and I'll have something to work with there.

Exacts are huge for the term 'appearance' but it's a start, and I believe that there is or can be a significant difference between 'appearance' and 'appearances'. If the name was appearances I would certainly go the route suggested above.

Though, I'm not aiming to be at all dismissive of the idea. You both stated it, and it is something that certainly makes sense, and certain has appeal. The possible work involved scares me off a bit, that's all :)>

You'd probably make most money if you could sell the domain to a cosmetic surgeon. It's not my favourite industry, but there is a lot of money in it.

Yes, that was where the cosmetic industry text links angle came from. Of course if I was able to sell that would negate putting any thought into the process. I might give it a go anyway though (the directory idea) and if it comes to nothing, consider that as an option.

Even many cosmetic dentists have a million pound turnover, hard to believe I know, but when you think that veneers often cost £6-10,000 I don't suppse it's a great surprise.

Thanks again for your valuable input!
