OK so I'm pretty stuck right now.
I've got a site hosted with ipage.com and want to move it to my reseller account elsewhere.

I get a PLESK control panel with my reseller hosting.
I've been into ipage.com and exported the database. I have been into my reseller account and with the help of their tech support, I think I managed to import the database. I set it up with the same name and passwords, uploaded the rest of the wordpress site and then altered the wp-config file to reflect the local host database information.

Then I pointed the nameservers towards my hosting panel and I get a database connection error.

For love nor money I can't get the site transferred and am thinking I may have to rebuild it from scratch. Can anyone with more experience of this than me help me out with some advice?

Thanks

Overview would be:
  1. Take a dump of the db from ipage
  2. Copy files to new server
  3. Recreate db with user and pass etc
  4. Upload the db contents via phpmyadmin to new server
  5. edit the wp conf file with new credentials
  6. change nameservers
  7. drink beer
  8. ???
  9. profit

sounds to me like somethings wrong in the config file have you double checked all the setings.
Has the dns had time to update yet?
As long as you have a backup of the original database you wont have to start from scratch so dont worry about that.

Are you using a third party template installed by automation or the template seller?

Sometimes they have the URL in code and it stops things working. Just do a find and replace to check.

my bet is it's the config file (if all else done). Pm if you need help

I'm just back on with the reseller hosting now to check the config file.
Basically the config file is identical to the one hosted on ipage except the hostname has changed to the following:

/** MySQL hostname */
define('DB_HOST', 'localhost');

I have confirmed with them this is correct.
The error being thrown up is "Error Establishing Database Connection".
I've done the backup of the database from ipage and uploaded this through phpmyadmin on the new server.

I've transferred the rest of the site and changed the nameserver (well I've changed them back now as I need the site to be accessible). I originally changed them last night about 6pm and when checking today at 2pm thats when the error was showing up.
Within an hour of changing the nameservers back, an email test I'd sent myself to the domain name came through... I originally sent it yesterday approx 10 mins before originally changing the nameservers to point to the new host.

I'm a little techy but I've most definitely hit my limitations now. This shit is hard, no wornder I prefer PHP and MS Access :p

If you've set up your database name, user, and password in wp-config, it'll in all liklihood be that the localhost name is different.

I'll betcha that's it. Check with your new host what it is you should be using.

Talk about numpty. Just spotted a mistake with the password info which was staring me in the face so much that I missed it and now I think I've sorted the problem.
Going to retry the nameservers again... fingers crossed.

Yes it is working on the old hosting platform. I spotted the error then got a message from the support team with my new reseller who spotted the same error. We both went in and corrected it so at least we're on the same page. Hopefully now this will be it.
Thanks everyone.
