Can someone on this forum not employ you to do some freelance work?. Your mostly doing it for experience and because your enthusiastic and the person getting the work would be getting it for peanuts in comparison to going rates.

Maybe, you never know :)

Ran in to a few problems with the bulk whois site but hopefully it'll be up and running soon.

Quick question, can someone who has access to WhoIs2 please send me a text file of the response you get from it?

I'm pretty sure the response is exactly the same as the normal whois.

Cheers, just wanted to be sure. But on the normal WhoIs if you go to page source you can't actually see the registrant etc.

Please say this isn't the case with WhoIs2

You need to be connecting over a socket rather than trying to scrape the data from the page.

WHOIS.nic.uk
port: 1043

Oh I'm doing that alright, but I'll still need to get the info that I need from the result. It's hard to explain.

Got it working, expect it to be live soon :)

It would be great if the whois checker was able to scan public catchers bookings and tell us what to target harder ;)

Heh I highly doubt drop.co.uk, domainview.co.uk etc would appreciate us automating this unfortunately. I can and have however automated checking domainmonster, have my own desktop software I wrote for it, no complaints yet from them.

Cheers Nominet for only allowing 5 queries a second for some strange reason even though we're using whois2 (not whois).

You're just acting as a gateway to the whois, the normal whois limits apply to each person using your site.

Yep, that includes the 1000 queries per 24 hours too, oh and you're not allowed to use it yourself either once you've built it :)

Can see why you have a limit of 50 now. Anything more would mean the user waiting for ages.
