My view is that England started panicking a bit too early when it was still 2-1, the defenders got way too far forward and left us vulnerable.

As the pundits said, the team didn't get wide enough and were playing down the middle of the pitch too much of the time.

I personally would prefer to see an English manager. Nothing against Capello, I've just always felt an Englishman should be managing the national team.

Anyway, I know it's very easy to be an armchair expert, but losing 4-1 to the Germans does hurt a lot.

In the last 6 weeks since I decided to proper give SB a try, all my sales have been recent so I think things are picking up, I have made £19.19 so I am thinking this my first weekend while sales are coming through, my diamond ring site is on the first page of Yahoo now so here's hoping

Who though?

Whilst England might be blessed with decent footballers, they've never really had the greatest of managers. Obviously, Redknapp took the chance to stick the knife in after the game yesterday, but beyond him, who is there? Woy Hodgson .... and ... eh .... ???

Who was the last English manager to win the top league in England?
I'm thinking Howard Wilkinson almost 20 years ago??? Who is in a position to change that domination of foreign coaches?

I'm not taking the p*ss out of the English, I'm just questioning the wisdom of bringing in a lesser manager because of his nationality, rather than his skills as a coach. I might be wrong!?!

I totally understand your point, there's nothing really logical about it, but having a foreign manager just doesn't sit right with me. Don't get me wrong, it'd be unfair to discount all foreign managers, but it's just one less barrier to overcome. I have a hard time understanding Capello at the press conferences, so I can only assume the players can't always understand him. There's a certain amount of patriotism involved as well, I love to see the England team stand their and sing the national anthem and I'd love to see the coaching staff doing it too.

Don't get me wrong, I think a "local manager" can add something to a national team, but when you have slim pickings, then you don't have much choice.

You only have to look at the Scotland team to see what a local manager can do, compared to a foreigner.

On the other side of the coin, look at what Trappattoni has done for Ireland. Had it not been for Terry Henry, then he'd have been at the WC with Ireland.

Is the manager really the problem though, as Capello is a quality coach with a proven record?

I refuse to believe that there is no-one in the country who can manage the national team. I have always felt that having a foreign manager is bad for team spirit, I felt the same with Sven. I'm sure there are probably thousands of people who could do it. Even if they weren't technically as good as a foreign manager, it's the being English bit that I feel would more than make up for it.

It doesn't have to be an English manager but it has to be someone who has been succesful in the English league.

Not one manager since Bobby Robson has won the English league. If they don't manage succesfully in the English game then they won't know the English style of play, fast high tempo.

You can't take 11 guys who play a certain way for 2 years and then for one month ask them to play another system, not going to happen.

I don't have any stats to hand, but I thought Sven did a pretty good job with England and was more successful than most recent England managers!? The problem was the success was tainted by all the tabs attacking his personal life.

Acksherly, Capello's statistics are quite good, he's coached them to win more than they have lost - and the players are sticking up for him against criticism.

I'm reminded of situations in industry where everybody likes the directors, right up to the point where the receivers walk through the door ...

There is one obvious point. England need a good defensive coach. Capello can do his own coaching on the forwards, but the defence needs a cohesive plan, not the mess we saw against Germany.

As far as I am concerned, the best working defensive coach in England is probably Mr D Unsworth, the Head Coach of Preston North End. I'll bet other people could name other good defensive coaches who are not working for the England national team. I'll also bet they have never heard of the Italian bloke who is actually doing the job.

They lost, and that is ultimately Capello's responsibility. I don't believe in sacking people for making the odd mistake, even if it is a great big one. If we thought that way, David Beckham should have been sacked over the penalty shoot-out four years ago.

On the other hand, I am reminded of the faith shown in Brian Kidd when he resolutely led Manchester United from the first division to the second division.

This situation should be analysed by people who really know what they are doing. Unfortunately, we already know it will be examined by the FA ...

The record in the qualifiers looks great from an attacking perspective, but if you look at goals conceded in these games and in friendlies, it does not make pretty reading. They struggled to keep a clean sheet, even with their first choice back 4. Swap out Rio and replace him with a player (Upson) from a club with a poor defensive record, then it's not going to improve!

If they cannot keep a clean sheet, then they have to out-score the opposition, but they never got going at that end of the pitch. If you cannot attack and cannot defend, then you're gubbed!

what a shambles....firstly i lost my tenner on germany winning 5-1 ahhhh

warm up to the world cup was poor....very poor (friendlies)

then we had a poor group stage.....very poor even though the pundits were trying there hardest to say they improved significantly....they didn't because the opposition were a shambles

then we decided to play Germany with Gerrard on the left , Terry wrong side of defence ,Upson.... if carlsberg made defenders they didn't bother with Upson (the worst England defender since warren barton) he done such a good job for the hammers they nearly went down.....

rooney wasn't fit....but he must play because of sponsorship... ,only used to playing a certain way and prefers playing with an attacking midfielder behind him...bless him his missus still ties his laces before the match (not got the inteligence to play another formation)

Barry wasn't fit...looked like he was running in quicksand and i think terry had the same fitness coach....0-60 in well forever

So we are getting pasted by the Germans and what happened capello decides to make a substitute....who would it be a prolific striker who scores 30 a season ....no it's actually heskey who last scored when hitler was still bombing London....dohhh

It was good tactics to hoof the ball to the two front players who stand about 4' 10 inch if they stood on each others shoulders....the German defenders who are 6 FT 2 inch a piece looked so comfortable they asked for a sofa ....surely it would have been better to try and out pace them....no too simple

So what next.....

all my favourite players in the premiership are foreign....and the English players are been stopped from developing so probably struggle to qualify for the Euro's and then ,the abyss.....sad but true
