It's really simple to use the affilistore. If you can follow a recipe then you can work with this. It sounds daunting but it's a piece of cake really.

Yeah, making a cake is a piece of p!ss if you're following a recipe, but if the recipe involved sql, databases, php and feeds, I wouldn't be able to make the cake ;)

To install a feed on your sites you only need to add 1 URL. It's worth taking an hour or two to work through.

Add 1 url to what?

All I know about feeds is they give you products to sell, but how do you get the actual products on the website, presumably by using php to make the site pages? Again, I don't know how php works, so it would be a complete waste of time.

You need no knowledge of php or sql etc, all you need to do is create a database in your host, then in the admin panel of your affilistore website you simply add a url feed for your products. It really is that simple. If you follow the tutorial I posted previously, it takes you through the whole process step by step, it even includes how to go about creating a database with your host if you are not sure of that.

Scott,

How do you get your website to display like that? do you user their api?

I can't seem to work out how to only display one merchant or certain products etc.

I use their shop window script not the api so I don't use a database or need worry about updating it, the shop window script shows all products from affiliates you are signed up to by default, you can select a general category to narrow it down in the setup script. For my actual left hand navigation I just use my own search terms from research, manually adding the links using the search function/url.

Thanks Scott, very helpful :)

Hi there,

I host the Affilistore Enhanced (ASE) script on behalf of Tifosi, who has written a fork of the original Affilistore product having gained approval from the original Affilistore author.

When I started out, I didn't have a clue where to start, but the scripts do make it pretty easy.

I do have a whole set of tutorials for people just starting out with not even a clue about webhosting on my blog in VERY easy and often pictorial steps. It covers thae origional Affilistore product, but the getting started for ASE is equivalent.

If someone can't follow that, then I will be disappointed as I spent a huge amount of time doing that to cut down on the 'basic' and often repeated questions .... and it worked.

If you already have hosting, then as the script itself is free, then why not just try it.

The tutorials are all available one-click away from the fromt page in the menu structure at Affiliate Stores - Build your own Affiliate Store

Questions from a pm said:
Product looks good -

can you tell me when v3 is roughly to be released?
will there be an upgrade path from older versions
and will it work with the new affiliatewindow "create a feed"?

I got some questions via pm, but thought that the Q&A worth sharing to help those of you thinking more about Affilistore or Affilistore Enhanced.

There is no upgrade path from Affilistore to Affilistore Enhanced ... whilst similar, there are too many differences in the underlying data structures etc.. to make that a viable upgrade path. If Affilistore Enhance appeals to you, then don't start out with Affilistore.

Since developing Affilistore Enhanced, we have maintained an upgrade path. At the moment, I would see that remaining true for the v3 upgrade, depending upon what coding changes are needed ... but that could change.

I would put a v3 release date to be much later in the year (towards the end).

We have discovered a bug in v2.5.3 that means that feeds do not refresh correctly. This will be fixed in 2.5.4.

The AW create-a-feed option forces compression on the feed and neither Affilistore or Affilistore Enhanced supports that directly; however it is quite possible to decompress the file locally and manually upload it and both products will support any file that can be made available in a CSV (comma, pipe or tab delimited), so you should not be put off on that basis.

I have suggested native gzip support appears in V3, but once we get v2.5.4 out, I will publish a (easy codable - pretty much copy/paste) workaround that will allow you to auto-refresh the feeds straight from the network URLs, even if they are gzipped, by creating/calling a file pre-processor to fetch and unzip the files.

Hope this helps.

David

any date for 2.5.4?
dont want to rumble on to update them all again later?:p
thanks for the info
very informative

2.5.4 is imminent ... Tifosi has indicated a version out very soon which will potentially be beta to me first.

It isn't a major release - bugfix and optimisation, so I would anticipate that we might get it out as a production release during April with a fair wind behind us.

Why not install something like WAMP and start playing with ASE 2.5.3 locally, and readying a site if you prefer that it only goes live under 2.5.4. That should give you script familiarity and a head start. Don't overload it with feeds though. I anticipate that the feeds will need to be deleted and recreated under 2.5.4 to completely eradicate the feed refresh bug.

All being well I'll have 2.5.4 within 2weeks. Depends on a few things... including Nominet's decision on the dac etc and a few other projects, including a couple of 2.5.3 sites.

Will just be file updates with a potential sql to run if updating to change/add indexes.
