how much would someone charge me to build system to pull an affiliate feed from AW into a site (probably wordpress - unless advised otherwise) and set up a cron job.

i've got a site on storeburst that does OK - but would prefer my own site.
feed would come from 1 company (brown bag clothing) and would need to be pulled into categories;tags
example: Hugo Boss / Armani / Lacoste

and also T-Shirts / Shorts / Trousers

and maybe Men/Women
If possible.

I'm currently building something similar in spare time as a Drupal 7 project, I have done some WP stuff, so could probably do this.

The problem I found was the quality of the awin feed data, categories are included in the XML, but much of the data was pants so I was actually thinking that I'd have to implement pattern matching of keywords in the description to build useful categories.

Have you looked at the AW storefront? Not looked for a while, but used to be easy to set-up.

no, not ever seen AW storefront - i will look into it.

at least im only using ONE merchant, i dont think the updates would need to be that often to be honest.

Digitalquill plugin does everything you are looking for, including updating at regular intervals, placing products into categories, and if you manage to get v2.6 from him, it also does all the tags in allinoneseo plugin. I use the plugin on several sites and it works fine. The filtering doesn't work, but that's no problem if you are pulling a merchants whole feed.
Don't hold your breath for any support though, he has ignored every email or pm I have sent.

I have done this and looks like it will work well. I also employed the same pattern matching for products key features too. I also found I had to extend AW's base category's to fine tune the category's i wanted on my sites.

This can be as small a project as you want, or something along the lines of one db for multiple sites, all managed from a single admin interface(In progress :) ).
