Ads in threads on acorn

Tapatalk runs their own ads in the mobile app. The ads are from their network and are usually content based viral linkbaity articles. They show up in the app similar to how new threads are displayed.

Apparently there is a revshare for forum owners to earn on these clicks. Caz likes these articles and would like to see more of them.

Putting more Google Adsense ads on the forums is not what Caz means at all and has no carryover to the Tapatalk app at all. Think this is a case of crossed lines...

That's the ones!

Constructive criticism:

Could the ads be placed outside of a person's reply panel? At the moment the location is a bit confusing, and almost looks like an endorsement.

Thanks Martin, I'll give that thought, it's on trial. Update - this new ad and the header leaderboard ad will now not display for Exclusive members. I will also disable the footer leaderboard ad for them.

i suspect most members on here are pretty banner blind to such ads. More likely its guest visitors clicking the ads.

I have seen on a few forums a banner ad in-between forum posts.

In Post ads generally convert better than below first post, depending on the niche considerably in some instances.

Admin depending on your traffic stats, if guests take up a large percentage of the traffic you might want to maybe consider adding a conditional so that guests have inpost ads, normal members have ads between the first and second post and premium members have no ads at all.

In many cases guests will often be the main contributor to forum revenue anyway so putting more ads out there with maybe a little message below saying "Less Ads upon registration" it could work in a two fold...............Happier members who have an issue with the in post ads and potential lurkers signing up to avoid the inpost ads.

Obviously just a suggestion, all of these positions are pretty normal for most monetised forums to go through, its just finding that happy medium for a certain community.

Great post AdamH, i think main contributers should be rewarded. To many lurkers imo, i have had many lurkers here steal my ideas and register .uk in co.uk domains i owned, when all i was doing was trying to do was contribute to the forum in a positive way.

All that after 20 posts and only registering last month...come on, what was your username previously ;)

Agreed though, I reckon AdamH is the best contributor on Acorn by a country mile.

Someone who challenges you to a £100 ftr contest, judged by impartial acorners, thats ofc if you are a man of your word.

Huh? Man of my word on what? Merely asked if you were a member previously, as you seem to know quite a bit for a member that signed up last month and hit the ground running...

That image advert in the first post is really off putting :(

Can that not be just for guests as an encouragement to sign up?

I don't mind though..

I figured as long as I concentrate on stuff I opened the thread for, doesn't bother me a single bit..

Besides if that's the one way to generate little extra income for the forum and keep them sales threads free of charge (I remember there was discussion about this some time ago), isn't that ok with you guys?
