A story about a domain

Domain

woopwoop Learn from it.

If your not first in this game then your last. If your last you lose plain and simple.
We are all selfemployed in this game we all have our own tactics to get those names that everyone else wants, some times we win the round and sometimes we lose.

Woopwoop if you where playing chess you just got beat by a grand master.:D that should be your lesson. learn from it. move on and go for the next domain.

...Woopwoop if you where playing chess you just got beat by a grand master.:D that should be your lesson...

Knowing I got beat isn't a lesson! lol

I'm over it and think that the few things I learnt are:
1. Make my biggest offer for the domain up front in the email (like websaway said)
2. Approach several people in the company (keep going higher)
3. Expect incompetence (if that was the reason for the person telling me it had expired and wasn't sold but was re-registered - which you have to admit is very strange...)

..sending emails and letters offering large amounts of dosh for domains to random people in corporate organisations who are most likely going to be completely clueless - is that really a good way to start?

Anyway, its all over now - what was the domain?

I mean what's the big secret, I want know what the big deal was about?

You go fishing to catch fish.
Not every time do you land them.
The same for domains.

Edwin has just arrived back from his fishing trip

I'm not talking about to random people - also I really don't think I was way off the mark speaking with the head of patents and licensing (the domain registrants). They were initially communicating between myself and the relevant decision maker - but it's clear they weren't communicating fully.

It's not a secret but I don't think that it should be put in this thread (PM Edwin for the info).

Please don't bother - you'll be wasting a PM as I'm not going to go into any more detail than I already have. Thanks.

Which reminds me - does anyone wanna buy holy.co.uk ?
(After you buy it we could both say it wasn't sold - Really I'm over it!)

Life`s knock`s

It Does not make sense being a sore loser
There are plenty of times, i have not got what i have thought, i wanted
and plenty of times i wish i had not got got what i wanted

So Dont be too pi**ed off

you are lucky it was Edwin you danced with, as he has been so kind and others here to show you the steps , acorn is one of the best places for that

Right time, right place, and pressing the right buttons, is what counts
and its not always about the money , best to feel the conversation 1st
as much as we would all like to think we are know it alls , we are not
i have both underpaid and overpaid and been refused , tis part of life ,

ps if you have got xx,xxx to spend them maybe i could sell you something
to ease the pain for you , :p

there are quite a few nice folks on here and in my book Edwin certainly falls in to that mold both he and his good lady are really good people

and on occasion even been known to talk to a northerner like me

Luck never made a person wise

you were fortunate, you were not dealing with the welsh domain mafia ( just joking lads )

awesome thread!

Learning tough lessons hurts... not making the same mistake again is the key.

Edwin, this has generated some interest. Could be good opportunity to flip it via domainlore etc

If Edwin puts it on DL I will do a Ricky Jervais dance on the roof of Buckingham palace :p

Brilliant thread.

Firstly not making sure the decision maker was able to decide. Classic mistake

Secondly losing the sale to a pro. That hurts

Thirdly Having a good old moan on here only to be put in place by Edwin and half of Acorn. Tarred and feathered lol

Finally flipping it on domain lore for a profit - now that's even funnier

Bloody brilliant - More of the same please;-)

Perfect summary.

Woop Woop, I feel your pain. Same thing has happened to me (They refused to sell it even though it was dropping and a well known catcher managed to get it, they lost out on money, they lost the domain, and I didn't get a domain I have wanted for quite a while)

Sometimes you get them, sometimes you dont :)

EDIT: And yes... Edwin... Flipping a domain... In the same sentence?

don't get too excited Phil, it hasn't been flipped on domainlore...................yet :p

Edwin's not really a flipper i don't think, focuses on endusers and dev.

It's not going to go on DomainLore or anywhere else. This one's a keeper.

...Thirdly Having a good old moan on here only to be put in place by Edwin and half of Acorn. Tarred and feathered lol...

If it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger - even though tarred and feathered!

Look I didn't want Edwin's name coming out in all of this. I think the conversation would have been more objective without his name - but I did want to have a moan like you said.

As for being put in my place, maybe, but I feel like I learned something and there were a lot of great comments mixed in with the bashing.

Perfect summary.

I haven't approached many companies to acquired domains but I feel like I will do a better job next time. I think that my pain has gone and I'm ready to move on :)

It's not going to go on DomainLore or anywhere else. This one's a keeper.

Friends?
