A new alternative for parking .co.uk names

Status
Not open for further replies.
I've signed up for a quick test - personaly there is no way ND can be worse than sedo for me at the moment.

Can anyone clarify that the "folders" make no difference to parking/revenue and they are just a way of organising my domains.

Anyone suggest some popular folder names?

Also I second some ones elses request for money amounts to be in £ before we get to another sedo point.

thanks

Hi there Charlie,

Great to hear you're giving us a try. As a Brit myself, I'd love to see the stats in GBP as well.
The way we see it is that we are paid in GoogleDollars and we want to show you as accurately as possible what you have earned. When we pay you, we pay you in GBP. It really is a question of perception whether we display in dollars or pounds. We lock our dollar payments to the pound which means that, what you eventually see in pounds in your bank or paypal account will be exactly equivalent to what you earn in dollars.
I know that won't do much to satisfy those requesting the pound. I can absolutely understand where you're coming from, but I have to be honest and admit that it is not something we will be able to realistically offer until we are paid by Google in GBP, which will not be in the near future.

On a positive note, we are currently negotiating with UK partners who will pay in GBP for the extra services we will offer you in the future. These earnings will be displayed in the good ol' pound.

Charlie, the folders are simply there to arrange your domains, should you wish. Some people don't bother at all while others have a whale of a time sorting everything into a myriad of folders! It has no effect on payments etc. It is simply to tidy things up for you.

I think I shall shortly post a Short NameDrive Tutorial #2 for little tips and tricks that some of you may have missed.

Have fun, Charlie. Let me know if you want any help with optimisation etc.

many thanks for that reply = a two liner would have done!! :D

I suppose the only penalty on getting paid in dollars is the exchange rate in paypal - i suppose bankers draft or what ever the other option is preferable so you dont lose any of your hard earned cents! :)

apreciate your reply

will let you know how i get on

Sorry, Charlie, I'm not very good at two-liners.
I tend to get carried away. Not this time.
Ed
Nuts. 4 lines. Close enough.

Well ed i've stuck 20 domains on namedrive if you can get anything out of the 2000 visitors i get to dreamstream.co.uk then you've got yourself another convert!

i think we'll find the "related searches" a real winner they're far more visual than on the sedo pages - hopefully the visitor will find something they wanna click

thanks

so when are acorndomain members going to get a bonus 2% or what ever it is you get with sedo???

:Dcheeky!

the number of decimal places are worrying

US$ 0.1000

are we expecting click values of

US$ 0.0001

?

is there a click minimum

Haha.

We don't have clicks of 0.0001.

Basically, we do have revenue that comes directly from Google. Google introduced their new pricing policy which means that, if there is only one advertiser on "Granny's favourite bedtime Stories" then it is possible that the minimum COST of the click to the advertiser is $0.01. Once Google take their chunk and we take our small piece of commission, that doesn't leave much for Joe Parker.
I am wary of putting "we have a minimum click of 0.02 cents" as I know Sedo have a 'minimum click' policy which then took a beating when people started receiving clicks below that. I will simply say, we don't want to have any clicks less than $ 0.02 (or, if you like $0.0200...). We're happy to take the hit there to keep you happy. However, I have to say that a large percentage of our UK hits lie well above the 0.10 mark.

E

Just to say, I have current clicks of 0.45 and am on line to earn in one month what I was earning in 3 in Sedo. :)

Fantastic to hear that, Firestars.

I did forget to mention that the fact that we pay this way means that there is effectively no limit to how much can be earned. I've really, honestly, seen clicks up to $10 on some of our accounts. I'm not making any promises that everybody will get $10 clicks, but we really have absolutely no upper limit to what can be earned per click. If Google pay us that much, we pay you that much, rather than assigning a generic click price to your keyword.

well I've had a $5 click already off 20 avg. domain names.- few more of them and the whole portfolio is moving.

This gives you a clearer picture of how much sedo are skimming and they're still charging us UK users £100 to sell a domain.

many thanks ed

Well I'm yet to get a $5 click although some of my names are doing better compared to Sedo. It is, however, a mixed picture for me - some of my best domains did much worse and I transferred them back. I think the key is to try it out for individual domains and to judge for yourself. I'm still adding names to Namedrive but I am equally putting others back on Sedo. I imagine that that my portfolio of 500 or so names is going to be split 50/50 at this rate.

Can't fault the support at ND and also really like the interface. Looking forward to seeing what all these new features that Ed mentions are going to be.

Stephen.

i think perhaps you have to do a little experiment with keywords. Optimisation for me is a pain in the a*se. To spend each week tweaking for an extra $0.01 is a waste of my time. But if i think the keyword is right and i can move it to a system that pays out more then it works for me.

You also have to think whats the maximum click you ever had with sedo?

Absolutely agree about experimentation - which I always do - although actually $0.01 for each click for each day of the year multiplied by 500 domains could equate to several hundred dollars per year!

Stephen.

Hi Ed - finally got round to it and am trying you out on a few of our domains, got a couple of questions though

for Ed

a) When will login details allow input of a Ltd Co
b) Can we manually set the related searches. On the first 4 domains we have set up the page looks good but it would be better still if we could tailor the related searches - I know you can do this but much better if the user can set up and adjust them as and when.

for Brassneck and other NameDrive users

a) Which type of domains do better at ND - I have started with some job and insurance domains but is there any pattern to the best performers (would holidays, flights, loans etc, etc, be better?). I also am picking generic one click domains as I prefer these to using a portal. Any views on this would be most appreciated. Many thanks

all my previous namedrive clicks and PPC has been cleared, understandably as it the first of the month, but I cant see anything in payments to say that this has been recorded - can anyone tell me what has happened to my previous stats or where to find them?

Hi there,

Just a quick Saturday evening note...

Nigel, great to see that you're finally giving us a go. Thanks for doing so. Just to answer your questions:
a) I'll try and get the LTD done for you by the end of the weekend. It's been on the list since you mentioned it. I can't believe it's anything difficult, so I'll see if it can be done asap.
b) We can 'force' the related searches on all of our domains. Our new related search optimization is now in place - part 1 of our optimization overhaul - which means that the more a related search is clicked, the higher up it appears. However, we also have the possibility of putting any 9 related searches up there that you'd like to have (as long as they're relevant...). We would love to be able to give users the option to add whatever links they wanted directly onto the page, but, having started with the attitude of providing "parking for adults", it has become clear that some people have been abusing our relaxed optimization system, so we'll have to clamp down a little.
If you, Nigel, or anyone else, would like to have any specific, relevant, related searches on your domains, then send me an email with them and I'll get them up there for you.

Charlie. You can see your earings from last month by selecting 'last month' in the top right of the summary screen. Don't worry, it certainly isn't being forgotten about :)

When I have a bit more time tomorrow, I'll post a more detailed message about the payments which will be made towards the end of next week.

Hope you all have a good evening.

Ed

Hi everyone,

Please forgive my sentimentality, but yesterday saw the one year passing of this post ever being opened :D On the day I became an uncle for the first time, so I thought I'd post a birthday/anniversary post.

Not wishing to sound too much like Halle Berry, I'd like to say thanks so much to all you guys, my favourite forum people :) and to Acorn Domains for providing this great platform. (And to my family, naturally).
Without support from Acorn and its members, things may have been different as we were trying to get off the ground. It's great to see that, of our first 100 customers, over 80% are still with us, several of whom are among your number. We are certainly planning on birthday gifts - sorting things out with the Goog to lift the lid on high clicks is one, as mentioned elsewhere in another thread, but I think we'll have to have an official birthday, much like the Queen, to really give you something back.

It's amazing how quickly time has gone. The stuff we've had to overcome has been amazing, there's been all sorts of fun going on here behind the scenes but despite all we've done, we have still only implemented perhaps 1% of everything we set out to do, so I very much look forward to revisiting this post in another 12 months' time.

I still remember the panic when one of you added 120 domains to our system and we were convinced we couldn't cope. We now handle a few thousand times that number of domains. How things have changed since we were crammed round my living room table in August 2005!

Thank you to everyone who supported us from the beginning. I appreciate that we have not been everything to everyone on this forum and certain arbitrary price hikes are encouraging people to look elsewhere, but make sure you always have a look around here because anyone who has been with us since those days with dull grey portals with no optimization (and no stats!) will know that things move fast and in interesting ways round here.

Here's to another year of working together with you guys, it's always a pleasure :)

Ed

Bloody Hell, I read the first 2 pages thinking this was a new post!

Thinking to myself, "well whats new they do all this already"?

Oops. sorry. not entirely my intention :)

Updated the original post to prevent anyone else from doing so!
