I recently bought this from Aaron, and was curious what others thought of it's value

I bought it for my own reasons so the price I paid is unimportant, but interested what others think to the value of it, as it is hard for me to be impartial.

thanks

If you could find a club/business called 98 or prefix-98 it would be fantastic prob x,xxx sale to them

IMO it says 1998 so reseller I just can't see value in it tbh as it's the same as all other years surely? What's the difference to years 81/85/92 and numbers 102 / 150 / 195.co.uk etc

Who was the registrant prior to Aaron? Maybe some ideas of use there?

Any new business could successfully use this domain. And if you could find an event in 1998 as a reason for your brand even better.

For example in 1998 you decided to enter the wonderful world of the Internet etc. In 1998 you realised there was a need for more customer service in this sector and from then you have been etc etc

All good reasons to have a brand related to 98 and not just thinking of a brand name for 98. I so wish people wouldn't get confused between a brand and brand name lol

I don't really see using the internet for the first time in 1998 as a noteworthy event to go with a brand. If this was valid it would only relate to net businesses started in 98 somewhat limiting it and again i don't see this as anything to brand on anyway.

I think Nick has a point, but i would hold onto it as any company with 98 in their name would probably love this 2 character domain or anyone just lloking for a short memorable domain. Definately has value.

Yeah but knowing Frank's sales record it will appear in 6 months Sedo sold section for like £5 million :)

I think you need to understand brands more before saying it's not really that valid. I didn't mean to just forge one. But to find a real event that he believes in. Then this can be used and built upon.

98 for lots of companies was a very significant year. So lots of sub branding opportunities.

Fair enough - I was just giving my view from my limited experience. I'm not a 'global branding consultant' or anything I buy/develop domains which is what I'm basing knowledge on - it just doesn't stand out IMO. However if you've worked in marketing / larger blue chips (which it sounds like you may have) you'll have better ideas for it than most of us.

Your point may be valid but i don't recall ever seeing a company brand on a successfull year for them, or a key event that happened that year. Maybe their startup year, i know a lot of clothing companies like to include their established year? but not enough to buy the domain reflecting on that. I could be wrong though and only stating my own experience of branding.

Nick. Lovekraft.

Lol no never worked in marketing but I have been reading lately and as long as your brand is true and you are true to your brand. Then a brand name linked to it seems to have more chances.

More for small companies and those starting out I guess as the big players can afford lots of other things.

It's one where you could achieve a respectable sale price providing there is someone set on buying it.

Shortness obviously contributes to value.

Rgds

Spill the beans on the price Frank :) I PM'd Aaron with an offer and would have gone higher but he'd already sold it to you :(

Yeh I meant a value from being a NN.co.uk with only 89 in existance.

The registrant prior to Aaron was using it as a redirect to an adult website, so no clues there. I like the name for a few reasons personally and being a NN.co.uk name too, it is certainly very memorable

I can see it has value and possibly as a brand also, as it isn't exactly hard to remember either, especially as people will automatically relate it to something personally to do with the number 98 (like Caz says) so therefore adding an even more memorable angle to it

Ha ha thanks for the compliment ! I would happily accept £4.5m outide of Sedo though :)

My thoughts exactly - I meant a value from the rarity perspective of the name as well as what it is in itself.

Will drop you a PM now :)

Thanks for all your comments, and I welcome any others

I've only known the Asian market to be hot on "number domains" (everything between 1 and 10,000) being a lucky number for someone or a million.

Short numericals for a UK market = PhoneApps are probably the place to develop for access gain. Not sure outside of that where they fit otherwise

I like it Frank. Was interested in buying it until you went in with mega bucks and paid over the odds ;)

I like brandable names. I could see it being branded. It's just hard as hell to know who to market it at, as is the case with many brandables.
