Well Ive took the plunge and gone for a Samsung UE55H6700 LED 3d HD from Costco.
I tried passive and active and it was active all the way for me esp with glasses at £12.50 a pair from currys.

Are you really telling me you cant fill a kettle?

Filling the kettle isn't a problem. It's the time it takes to do it and for it to boil. I can have 2L of hot water within 20 seconds or so, which translates to seconds for a single cup of tea. That kettle you've purchased will be useless every time you forget to fill it, or someone else has forgotten to fill it (assuming you don't live alone), because it won't walk itself to the sink and fill itself with cold from the ordinary tap after you've instructed it to boil remotely! None of that is a concern for me. In respect of the potential for a nasty accident from a fully boiled kettle, just Google for the results. It's one of the worst things that can occur in a kitchen. Unfortunately people knock them over.

It tells me when it needs filling, most kettles just have a water display on the side which is hardly readable

There is 5 of us and we all have iphones and we are all 30 + so no need for child saftey stuff around the house nor are we such invilids we need to oussy foot around the place, :D

Perhaps try wipping down the side of your existing kettle more often with a clean cloth! :p The remote boil feature is no good if you aren't there to fill it because you or someone else forgot to, and are elsewhere in the house or still on your way home! A boiling hot water tap is plumbed in so constantly refills from the main. It's also insulated so the boiled water inside remains boiling hot, therefore I'm not constantly boiling and reboiling the same water from cold.

(from iPhone)

Our kettle at the moment is so crusty with like white carbon you cant see that, going to miss that old flavor of the kettle :D

You keep mentioning filling the kettle, our kettle is always full we boil a full kettle every time, i am not bothered about being eco friendly that is just a money making con

I didn't mention children. Anybody can accidentally knock over a kettle I'm afraid. Even you! I hope you never do because I think I'd rather lose a finger than have a full kettle of boiling water knocked over me.

(from iPhone)

you cant live like that , what if, what if"

ok we are getting a bit distracted here... i think your on your own with using luke warm water straight from the water boiler nothing worse than a luke warm brew in the morning..

I've seen some for under £400 and parts are replaceable. Are they with a kettle? Just google "boiling water tap". Mine was well under £1000 when I had it fitted in 2009 and I've seen some such as the Zip which cost much more. How long do kettles last in your experience? :) Probably just a few years. Plus all the time they take to fill and boil is terribly inefficient. How long do the burns from having a full kettle full of boiling water knocked over someone remain with them...?

You said consider the pure cost. And like a lot of eco friendly gadgets, boiling water taps don't pay for themselves.

As for burns, I had a quick look into this. Apparently the vast majority of scald and burns that cause a hospital visit involve hot drinks, not kettles. The majority of those involve children and the majority of those involve children under two. The majority of those injuries involve a child spilling a hot drink in a cup over themselves. Now that's as likely to occur whether you use a £10 kettle from Asda or your £1,000 tap.

I think you've been seduced by very clever marketing, invincible ;-)

Invincible's kryptonite has turned out to be the humble kettle

How do you feel when you visit friends/family and they're using a kettle? do you refuse to enter the kitchen as it's unsafe :p

Ha Ha come on lads we have him backed into a corner now :D

I mean imigine going round to invincibles house and he offers you a cup of tea and pours it straight from the tap you would think this guy cant even afford a kettle :D

But something telling me hes not short of a bob or 2 :D

Would you agree that so many purchases really don't pay for themselves? How would one quantify a boiling water tap paying or not paying for itself? :) How long it lasts, or number of people using it daily, how much it costs over the time it functions correctly? I'm not sure but I think it would be different for every purchaser. I'd imagine in a five person home of all adults it would be used more than a home with a single person. We could all have the cheapest kettles, washing machines, toasters etc and they might do the basic job. Fundamentally a boiling water tap will save the user time if they want boiling water instantly and I believe that has a monetary value.

You could well be right about the accidents with a kettle but it is certainly possible for anyone to accidentally drop or knock over a full kettle of boiling water which could have some horrible consequences for anyone nearby. Kettles are obviously picked up and put down constantly. That accident cannot occur with a boiling water tap.

There are some aesthetic benefits of not having a kettle on the side using up work top and power socket space and I think some of that seduced me back in 2009. I can honestly state that I don't miss using a kettle at home. :p

Actually, i take that back about you being seduced by clever marketing. Knowing you, you've got shares in boiling water taps! You are trying to seduce US with clever marketing! ;)

PS If you move house, can you easily take the tap with you?

If you want to prevent kettle scale, use filtered water. Means that you don't have to worry about pouring a layer of gritty sludge into the pot if you drain the kettle dry. And as long as you stock up when filter cartridges are 1/2 price (one or other supermarket runs a promotion every few weeks) it's not particularly expensive.

I will have a look at that edwin thanks, looking at our old kettle its really bad with scale.

The seller said he was getting it today but so far has not replied to 2x questions ive sent since paying :(

Here's a beautiful OLED television at Costco. Shame it's of the curved style. I would have posed in the shot but I wouldn't have wanted to take your attention away from the television. :p

(from Note 3)

You should have posed in the shot as it is a big widescreen :p

Anyway Ive found you a suit if you ever get within 5 yards of a deadly kettle. Cheers
