Certainly an interesting and rapidly growing area. More life in it than 3D movies etc. Thoughts?

Bear with me - I am trying to help you here...

I own 3dmovies.org.uk - it is one of the most retarded purchases I have ever made - I can't wait to get rid of it and it drop.

At the time I thought it might be a good hand reg when the 3d thing was in.

To make anything out of this domain your going to have to:

A: apply time, money and resources to make it work (are you prepared to do that?) - these days g expects a bit more that one page of adsense and even if you did is it going to be worth it long term?

Or option B - your buying it based on speculation, that someones going to knock on your door for this great domain and give you some BIG lump of dosh to do A the above?

Given how lazy most people are option A is mostly out, while your now stuck with option B that is now costing you money.

I like it but you are going to need a site on it NOW.

Most people have no idea what 3d Printing is. Get yourself wedged in the rankings for information and you should see some Adsense return on this one.

Good points here. For the money that it's currently costing me, I'm okay with the small investment. I know 3Dmovies.org.uk and 3Dprinters.org.uk are both 3D domains, but feel that the commonality ends there in terms of what's happening now with 3D printing. It being a .org.uk probably counts against the domain I know. I'd like to develop it, though time wise, that could be a problem :).

Don't do the obvious. 3dPrinter comparison site. Chryst see one more comparison site going up in this country and may just give up the ghost.

Then to directly contradict myself, do the obvious.

Do both. So i'm thinking perhaps product placement. This is time heavy. You go on this website and your lured into thinking you are having a quick read about 3d tech, all these interesting stuff you can print like cars and a new house for yourself [crap gag alert], then oh look turns out the kit only 300 quid sort of thing.

But pls no standard comparison site. pls.

Could this also read as a service.

Ie upload your a picture of your face.. we will print it out and send you a 3d model of it.

Contact all that offer it shouldn’t take long or Stick affiliate up you might get the odd £ would need to be pretty in depth to list high enough would either bring a decent return on your time ?

3d is not new (co, uk) most of the printing would have been regged 8 to 10 years ago one or two developed (probably earliest went hyphenated before the non?) converting polygons into physical objects is not new will there ever be enough demand cnc mills etc have done it for years yet you don’t see one in every high street knocking out 3d heads you see more passport booths?

Build a site / resource now. In 10 - 15 years 3d printing will be massive and a part of every day life.

You only have to do a google news search to see the potential - 3rd world medical to sextoys.

Actually here's a link bait idea for you.

Build a 3d printer by only using a 3d printer. MIND BLOWN

Thanks for taking the time to comment (and to all other comments). I certainly understand what you say about 3d printing not being new, though it is being used in new and interesting ways (including 3d printed heads, guns, tools, medical and so on). The cost of these units and going down so I feel it could get interesting. I do get the feeling that anything with the word 3d in the domain is immediately a bit off putting to people, but I suppose it comes down to what the future holds.

I know I really should get around to it. I'll have to make a plan. There are constant updates in this area, so it's not like I'd run out of things to right about. Just a time issue i suppose.

The guys who really made it in this business is because they stopped having 400 domain ideas and committed themselves to just one or two and worked steadily on them. In every case it didn't happen over night but some have walked away selling off 7 figure enterprises. Not implying you don't know all this.

Alot of the rest of us it's always 'i'll do it next month', always pushing it back, always not quite sure if it's better to wait for a more 'dead cert' idea to come up.

But at some point you got to go with one.

Agree 3dPrinters.org.uk has potential. Someone is going to end up being the go to infosite on this topic. At some point it is going to explode. Ref. Smartphones, for many years industry simply couldn't see how it could be done, but once they cracked it, it exploded verging on overnight. Went from basic fones to smartphones with processing power that would embarrass some full size laptops over night. The camera on an Iphone alone routinely beats the performance of stand alone digital cameras.

So if it were me, i'd simply make a decision and stick to it. This either is the one or it isn't. If not, sell it.

The I'll hold on til someone offers me mega £xxxx for it idea doesn't work for me. If you don't think it's worth developing then why assume others will?

Even then by holding it, someone else will gain footage in 3dprinter infosite niche that once they do, others will find it hard to knock them off their perch.

It only gets harder the longer we wait to develop.
