No you are not wasting your quota. The quota is for a rolling 24 hours.
So if nothing dropped for a day you haven't got twice the quota the next day.
Even if it's just a few hours, if you squeeze all you quote into the rest of the day, you will go over quota the next day.
You might as well just leave DAC running, unless you have other uses for it.
Can't say I can be bothered getting involved in an argument about this.
For me, it messes my patterns up. If for example, I am running DAC queries at close to 1000 a minute in the morning and nothing drops because of an error in the system yet the problem gets sorted in the evening then you've been put out of the running for the day (it's just nice to feel that you're in with a shot!). It's a pain in the arse but there's always going to be software glitches because nothing is perfect. It would be nice if Nominet could keep people updated on the status of the drop system. I think that's all that people realistically would like.
Not sure why that causes so much controversy really!
