My Aff Site UK Update

Hi guys

Will try to go through all the points that have been brought up so far

.com names
We are hoping to get our USA program up and running within the next 1 to 2 months

White Space
A nice border can be added to each product. The reason there is space around the images, is so it does not appear to cluttered

Image Clickable
There is a choice between 1 or 2 clicks. 1 click will make all products link straight to the retailers product. 2 click will take you to a product page on your shop.

Design
Playing around with the design really can jazz up your shops. Such as Takwa, Systreg and DomainDailyUK have done with there domain names

Quick Links
We have added a extra 5 spaces for more links. You can now add up to 25 quick links.

No Click but still a sale?
As already mentioned by Systreg. The retailers have 30 - 45 day cookies which is why sales could show for a certain day without actually having a click for the same day

New Design Layouts
We have plans for up to 10 different designs which will be released over the coming months

We are having great success so far and the names in our system are doing far far better than when they were parked.

If you have any questions, please PM or Email me

Regards

Chris

I think i'm going to have to leave it for now till it looks a bit prettier.
Good luck with it, i will certainly keep checking back to see how settings are progressing.

Dave

Have to agree with Dave. Think it's a great idea and have tons of domains this would be perfect for and although think it would be much better than parking, I think the visuals let it down for long term profits (although Kev seems to be doing pretty well out of it :) )

I'm a web designer myself and so fully believe the visuals play such an important part of the success, not necessarily everything, but adds to credability - even on affiliate based ideas.

Long term I'd rather build the sites myself and add to a user experience (also would look better to have a limited number of products scrolling down the page with page options at the bottom - similar to Amazon and many others).

Any plans to build better visual site templates?

Thanks,
Dean

Signed up the other day but not had the chance to do anything properly yet.

If only there were more hours in the day... :(

@ FagEnd and anyone else with bike site stores, Greatestdomains has just added Evans Cycles to the list of retailers today, so make sure you add it to your retailers list. I've been waiting for this one to be added, Evans pay 5% on everything, including bikes and frames, compared to Wiggle, who only pay 1% - 2% on bikes and frames, and 5% for all other products.

It makes a hell of a different commission wise, for example, Greatestdomains sent me a PM earlier, he told me that the £13.06 commission yesterday was from someone buying an item costing £871.05 from Wiggle through my mountain bike frame site, and it paid me 2% commission, had they bought it through Evans Cycles, I would have earnt £43.50 commission, really glad they are now onboard, as they have some of the best mountain bikes around in their product range.

Thanks for the heads up on Evans. I've added them to my bike sites now.

I also just hand regged a new bike domain. bike frameset -carbon frames | bike frameset -carbon frames deals
Think it would be good for selling frames, quite surprised it was still available for reg.

I'm liking the AQuarterOf aff program. I think this can be very successful, as folks of my age (34) get all nostalgic regarding retro sweets. Got a few cracking hand regges to promote this product.
Retro Sweets | Retro Sweets deals
Retro Sweets - Old Sweets | Retro Sweets - Old Sweets deals
Retro Sweets | Retro Sweets deals (top domain but the .co.uk was already gone, and developed - Some kind of childs education tools site)
Retro Sweets - Old Sweets | Retro Sweets - Old Sweets deals
Retro Sweets - Old Sweets | Retro Sweets - Old Sweets deals

Going forward, I don't think myaffsite will be viable because of the 25% cut Chris is going to be taking. As soon as a site starts getting sales it would make sense to switch to a self developed site and keep 100% of sales revenue. I hope Chris has a re-think and reduces the 25% take. If he gets the numbers signing up, a 5% take would be more realistic and still very profitable. If I'm losing 5% of my revenue I'd be less inclined to develop myself, but if I'm losing 25% of my revenue then it's a no-brainer to get my arse in to gear and develop.

Cheers,

Jim

@ FagEnd, I think you could struggle with framesets, I only say that because I checked it using the Google keyword tool, and the term "framesets" only got 170 searches last month, and "frame sets" just 12 searches, but if you can get it ranked well, who knows, you could get some salse from it.

I just uploaded my other mountainbikeframes.co.uk domain to the site this evening, rather than leave it parked on Sedo, hopefully that will do well once it gets indexed properly.

It's only in the last couple of months since joining here that I have joined affiliate sites like this one, paid on results and webgains, I never check what % they take, what's the usual % then?

Personally, in my position, I couldn't develop a site that is self updating with feeds from retailers etc, so paying 25% is nothing compared to what I have currently made, 5% would be nicer , but even if it was 30%, I couldn't gripe, it's still money I would otherwise not have earnt with my site sitting on a parking page, as long as they make a bit of profit it's all good for me, and considering Chris hosts the sites as well and they don't need any upkeep from me once I have set them up, I'm quite happy with it.

I did have 13 domains on myaffsite, but I removed 3 last night that weren't very good names, just to save Chris some bandwidth, now back up to 11 stores with the one I just uploaded.

Like the sweetshop idea, that retro sweet stuff was all the rage not long ago I seem to remember, good luck with those.

White Space Update

Hi guys

We have enabled a extra column and a extra 2 columns for shps with no left or right nav bar

You can choose if you want 1,2,3 or 4 columns from your admin section

3 colummns
Carbon Bikes
weight training supplements
Greece Holidays | Rhodes Hotels, Athens Hotel, Crete, Corfu, Zante
Babies | Babies deals

4 columns
steam oven | steam oven deals
Golf Trolleys - The latest pull and electric golf trolleys.
Computer Desks - Corner, Glass, Pine, Oak, Home Computer Desks

This should clear up the white space issue :D

Please Let me know what you think

Regard

Chris

Hi Chris, I'm liking that extra 3rd column, certainly looks better with the extra item in each line.

Just a question for others out there with aff stores, I currently have my sites set to one click, so that if a potential customer clicks the "more info" button, it takes them straight to the retailers site.

My thinking is, if I have it set as 2 clicks, that takes them to a product description on my site first, and from there they have to click to buy the product, which they might not do after reading the description. Better to get them to go straight to the retailer so that a cookie goes on their computer, just in case they go back to the retailer and make a purchase at a later date, as has happened recently on one of my sites, one click better than 2 clicks?

@ Chris, say someone clicks from my site to the retailers site for a specific bike, then they go away and go back to the retailer some days later, do we only get a commission if they buy the original bike product they clicked on my site, or does it apply for and product they purchase from the retailer while the cookie is on their machine?

1 Click will get them to the retailer quicker, but 2 clicks, give the user a bit more info about the product and is also better for SEO

When a vistor clickthrough, you will recieve commission for anything they buy

So for example

Mr Jones clicks through on a 'Bike Light' but then decides he wants to buy a BMX Bike ,the bike light and a spare wheel :). You will be paid commission for every item that he buys within that cookie period.

Hope this helps :)

I see, so then, cookies over SEO or vice versa, hmmmm, no doubt people will say SEO is better than getting the cookie placed, not sure what to do, I'll have to ponder over that one for a bit, still edging towards the cookie, though.

You will be paid commission for every item that he buys within that cookie period.

Nice one, that's good to know, but I wonder how many people keep their cookies, I know that on my browsers, it is set to clear all cookies when I close the window, I also clear my cache/cookies every night before I close down.

The MyAffSite is running really slow for me when trying to config a new domain, anyone else getting that?

@ Admin, someone else mentioned that earlier in the topic, see the post here and Chris's reply to it in the next post:

http://www.acorndomains.co.uk/affiliate-marketing/46374-5-free-all-new-affiliates.html#post165639

I find it the same when setting up a new domain and addin retailers, seems to be ok after the initial setup, still get the odd lag here and there when playing with setting, but I close the window, login again and it's back to normal.

[edit]

@ Chris, sorry, another question, will you be offering affiliates the chance to have their own affiliate ID in the future, so they can earn tiered revenue through other sites that sign up through them via links to myaffsite in sigs on other sites etc?

Thanks, that's what I'm trying to do, add retailers.

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) in /home/myaffuk/public_html/includes/mysql_connect.php on line 7
Error connecting to mysql

I'm getting MySQL errors and it just says "transferring data from jobscript.net"

I'll try again later.

I found that the control panel worked a lot better in IE than it did in firefox, especially for editing colours on the template.

Great work Chris, looks so much better now. I'm definately going to load more names into it to test out.

Thankyou for taking on board the suggestions and acting on them quickly. It seems others are impressed as well with the new layouts.

Cheers

I was just thinking about suggesting this a couple of days ago. I have already pointed a couple of folks from another domain forum to this thread. I was being asked what I'm doing with my ex parked domains and told them I'm trying out aff marketing with myaffsite.

I'm still hoping Chris will reduce the take, he didn't mention it in his last reply ;)

Cheers,

Jim

Just been informed that my BXM bikes site has made another sale, someone bought a £1000 bike through the site, that's the good news, the %*#@ing bad news is that they bought it through the retailer called Wiggle, who only paid 1% commission on the sale , earning me £7.50, had it been bought through Evans Cycles or Halfords, I would have got 5%.

I'm now thinking about removing Wiggle as a retailer for a week or two to see how it affects things, but they do stock a nice range of bikes not available on the other 2 retailers, so if someone is looking for a specific bike only sold at Wiggle, I might lose out on a sale even though the commission is crap, but at the end of the day, money is money, what to do, hmmm.

[edit]

Just had a quick look at bikes offered on both Evans and Wiggle, and obviously, with Evans being solely a bike supplier, they have a far wider range of mountain bikes etc, Evans are also a slightly cheaper as they specialise in bikes, but even though some are cheaper, that's outweighed by the better % paid, example from both sites of prices for the same bike:

Wiggle: GT Avalanche 3.0 Disc 2009 = £391.47
Evans: GT Avalanche 3.0 Disc 2009 = £339.99

Wiggle sell the following hard tail mountain bike brands:

Felt, Kona, GT, Charge, Iron Horse, Mongoose, DMR and Focus.

Evans sell all of those same brands except the DMR and Focus, but on top of that they sell about another dozen brands as well, so I see no benefit to keeping Wiggle as a retailer, so they are being dropped as soon as I can find a remove retailer button, thought I had seen one but can't find it anywhere, so I've asked to Chris to remove them manually for me.

[edit]

For anyone else wanting to remove a retailer, Chris just pointed out to me how to do it, knew I had seen it before:

To remove a retailer from your shop

1) Log in to your account

2) Select your shop profile

3) Click "Products" then "View current retailers and products"

4) Check the box of each retailer you wish to delete then press the "Delete selected retailers from your shop" button

I am demoing out with Cars | Cars deals
gadgets | gadgets deals

I think its really awesome. Now for products like weekend hire etc, its just the ticket. Its a great system and I think this is really going to take off. Especially if user feedback is incorporated, as I have just seen with the product feeds - i.e. less whitespace!

This is great news for me, because I can now add plenty of other sites into the mix!

I hope with time, as ND as done, templates will become more advanced and price sorting - or more advanced features on the pricing, but most expensive first would be a great feature. Clickable photos would be good too!

Iv just signed up for this but im unsure about how to change the nameservers, my sites are currently hosted on cheapdomains and the nameserver is namesco.

Anyone know how to do this?
