bit of a dilemma hanging on to that amount, banks cant be trusted and if they go under only a certain amount is guaranteed

I expect Camelot's investment advisors will give them a few tips.

Sweet... they can afford plenty of weight loss surgery now

with that sort of money i'm afraid they're now kidnapping targets and scam targets now they've made it public
they're gonna need security etc.

don't want to sound too cynical about the world but...........

Or even more chips...

They don't come across as being too intelligent; doubt they've thought through the consequences of going public.

First thing to do if you win is to arrange a meeting with a solicitor and accountant. Especially if it is a syndicate but even if not. What some people do is claim the prize as a trust, or claim that two family members chipped in for the ticket (father and son). These tactics and a bit of planning before claiming the prize have saved a lot of the tax.

The tactic of claiming the prize as a trust can help protect the identities of the winners too.

If anyone wins and this post helps you, feel free to paypal me a few thousand!

I would be quiet and move elsewhere. Your new neighbors (unless you buy an island) aren't going to know your previous level of living.

This. At any time going public with this isn't a great idea, let alone in the current climate.

well looking at them they're both walking heart attacks so the kids are rubbing their hands

we warned you not to go public :D
get the flak jackets! :p

Exactly what I thought they will become kidnap targets although looking at them it would be quite hard to take them

I don't fancy being kidnapped and tortured thanks :(

:lol, it'd take a crew of about 18 just to bundle them into the van, and they'd need a transit each!

They said they really didn't want to go public but had been advised to.

It would be very difficult to keep it quiet unless you really did just put it in the bank and tell no-one and don't spend, even moving away wouldn't guarantee anonimity, unless you don't help out your family.

If I'd won I'd have given £61m away to family and friends so I'd never have got away with anonimity, I wouldn't have gone public though, I'd have collected the money then flew abroad for a month straight away :)

After seeing them on the news tonight, I'm surprised they did go public.

Sounds like they do want to do some good with the money (which is great) but that can be done anonymously. They don't want a new house and the guy didn't even want a new car. Both wanted to go travelling, but that wouldn't give away how much money that had won either. :?

Most lottery winners are advised to go public so they can control the media.

Even if they didn't go public the likelihood is that the papers would find them anyway.

Yep, the media would have been going crazy to identify them so going public was really the only option to be able to control it. How many of Britains top 400 richest people have security, I guess most if not all, fact of life I'm afraid

I'd pay someone to take the credit for the win and quietly dissappear

Can you imagine being the fall guy - getting 1000's of charity requests and a few death threats, isolated from half his family, and only £400 in his bank... while everyone thinks he has millions

(I guess he'd have more than £400 in his account if you were going to pay him)

If i'd won 161 million i would certainly ensure the fall guy gets a lot more than £400.

2k should cover it;-)
