Before I starts - I know I shouldn't use 123-Reg but when I first joined it I was 14 or something, that's my excuse anyway :p

A week or two ago I got an email from 123-Reg and it mentioned a domain that I completely forgot about (freebiesfor.me ,no idea what I was thinking by the way!).

I checked the Whois just to make sure that I was the owner and I was. I've two problems now:

1. I'm pretty sure that I've never paid to renew this domain even though it looks like I must have. I always keep an eye on my PayPal account and the credit card that I use is a prepaid one so I very rarely have more than a few quid on it.

2. The domain doesn't seem to be listed in my account on 123-Reg, so I have no way of changing the DNS etc. Actually, I wonder how I can delete the domain.

Just makes me think about what else is going on that I haven't noticed.

You can always delete the domain directly from your Nominet account however this never stops 123-Reg from charging you as the domain can remain listed in your account even though it is no longer registered.

The fact you say it's not showing in your account at all sounds like a seperate issue - I've had this a couple of times with them where I registered names that just never appeared in the control panel (even though they were showing correctly on the Whois and I was invoiced etc)

If nothing else, you can use this for leverage to demand your money back for the renewal. You cant be expected to monitor the auto-renewal status for domains that aren't even showing in your control panel after all!

It always surprises me the number of "domainers" who do not have their own Nominet account or enom / directi / other reseller account to manage their non UK names.

Take control of your own domains guys, it's really not that expensive and saves you hours of grief dealing with these issues.

It's a .me domain so unfortunately can't do that. Good point about getting the money back though.

I know what you're saying but I'm not really a domainer, so not worth the hassle.

How much does it "cost" you though using a cheap supplier? If everything "just works" then fine, however, you see thread after thread on so many forums about issues with cheap registrars, even if you value your time a minimum wage the actual cost soon adds up.
