wotsit co uk

Caught for me today.

I really like it as a brandable domain.

I might just keep it and develop it into something tbh because I like it that much.

What do you guys think?.

Cheers.

What were you thinking of using it for out of interest mate?

Just for my own personal blog/news site.

I've wanted to make a site commenting my opinion on current news for a while, been going back and forth on names for ages. Still not sure just to go with my name or something a bit random/different and brandable, like wotsit.

I'm just about to do the same thing as a hobby site. Wotsit is easy to remember and familiar, I think its a good name.

I think you're bordering on obsessive with your use of "brandable" and although you appear to write well I roll my eyes every time I see you use it! :)

I've said before that almost anything is "brandable". I get the impression that you consider "brandable" to be a specific type of domain name but in my opinion your choice of word (i.e. "brandable") for that is incorrect. Perhaps abstract is a better choice? So much is "brandable" therefore try to be more specific because otherwise you are being too broad.

In respect of your idea for a site commenting and opinionating on current news, my view is if you had comments and opinions that were worth reading you probably would already have such a site. So do you? :) You don't need a good domain name to have a worthwhile site like that (many good writers have subdomains of blog services) and I would be hesistant about the anticipated quality of the eventual content written by anyone who delayed launching because he/she didn't have the domain name for it first. :)

In respect of using "wotsit.co.uk" for your site, why would you use that term? Are you affectionally known as "wotsit" by people? Do you eat a lot of Wotsits? Do you have a nose/some other body part shaped like a Wotsit? Is your name difficult to remember so people refer to you as "Wotsit"? If the answer is "no" to all of those then how could you and the term "wotsit" become synonymous? If they couldn't and if I haven't missed out any natural links, you may have to create something to link you and that term or I think it could be verging towards the ridiculous. If you go with it consider that by adopting this term you run the risk of becoming a laughing stock if someone/something else, beyond your control, ever creates a future association between the term "wotsit" and something perceived as profoundly negative.

Basically I like short names that aren't keywordkeywordkeyword.co.uk.

Would you have said the same about google, yahoo, bing etc as names? that they don't mean anything so they shouldn't be used.

Trouble is, 'brandable' or not you instantly think of those sexy, curvy orange snacks. ;)

I think you're thinking too much into it.

With what you said previously..

In respect of your idea for a site commenting and opinionating on current news, my view is if you had comments and opinions that were worth reading you probably would already have such a site.

There's been a couple of reasons I haven't done anything as of yet.. one major one being I'm not sure whether to do it somewhat anonymously.

I have some strong opinions on things, with strong opinions comes hate from people who disagree, if I created something that ever did become popular do I really want to be so open to all that misguided hate being pointed at me? once you're tarnished with a label, it's kind of hard to shake.

So I think I might have to filter myself quite a lot.. and If I have to do that and can't write about what I want to write about is there any point in even starting?.

The other thing is I have been waiting to catch an expired relevant site (something like gofourth co uk, which I didn't catch) that I could of 301'd and gave my future articles some immediate rankability In google.

Also obviously if you write about interesting topics they may well get shared socially so I may not need that.

Another thing is I have a couple of friends who said they would like to write for such a site, so I don't know If I should choose a random name or my own.

Why go interesting news why not useless ? I’d go with an intrepid quest of one snacks desire to be the first into space with small investment even send into space. http://hollandshoogte.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/hohoho-i-schematic.jpg it’s the sort of thing that certain papers and the net users love even possibly a world record for a snack, publicity a plenty live web links when it comes back to earth auction the record breaking snack to the highest bidder action figures badges t shirts oh its endless…..

Best Marketing, PR etc is about being creative not throughing money at something.

the domain name I like, but yeh everyone's gonna think of the cheesy snack no matter how well you brand it, you could very well be on this morning in a few years time after exposing some major news story as a conspiracy, and they'll introduce you as the guy behind the very well known wotsit blog, but advise the viewers not to tweet cheesy jokes into the tv show, only serious questions.

You're always gonna be known as wotsit boy lol, but hey, good catch still, love the domain :p

Make it a gadget site/blog - have you got one of those, errr.....you know, "wotsit" thingies?!

Review them and affiliate link them, sorted. ;)
