Wanted: Domain Appraisal Why is Skateboard.co.uk worth more than skate.co.uk?

I recently bought two appraisals from SEDO: skateboard.co.uk and skate.co.uk.

Skateboard.co.uk was valued at £12,000 and skate.co.uk was valued at £8,500.

I was wondering what your opinion was. I would have thought that skate would be worth more than skateboard because it is a smaller word and has a bigger market. It can be used for all the same markets as skateboard, and it can also be used for fishing, inline skates, roller skates, quad skated etc.

Let me know what you think.

I prefer skateboard.co.uk - skate.co.uk is too generic really...depends what kind of site you are trying to create I guess.

skate although a very nice name has a couple of meanings which makes it less specific. Skateboard is what it says on the packet.

Very much like that name you wanted to buy of me Alex, that also has a few meanings and also popular at the moment but for something entirely different.

However an appraisal is just that.. an educated guess.. what you sell/value it yourself (within reason) is the value IMO.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Like your roller skating domain, it says what it does. BTW sorry I didn't reply to that; I've been away and just got back. I posted a message saying that I have bought some and probably will not be wanting too many more now, but could you PM me and let me know roughly what you wanted?

My personal view is that skate is good because it is short and sweet, but I can see that for other uses it is too generic.

However I would imagine if it was used for Parking and advertising it would be better because it has a potentially greater market, what do you think?

No, quite the opposite. Image all those fishermen amongst us who visit Skate to find out more about the fish, will we click any Skateboarding links?

Ok, so really the point is that generic sites are not all they are cracked up to be.

Ah, someone who agrees with me! I have thought all along that skate was better, and thanks for reminding me about that new game. I just thought that a name with so many possible uses would appeal to many more people.

Although I do think skateboard sounds perfectly fine.

Yes skateboard"s" would be fantastic for a skateboard shop or info about skateboards etc.

But skateboard (I like to skateboard) is the scene so i think it works alot better than skateboard"s"

Skateboarding would also work well.

Yeah thats right depends on what your plans are - all top names for sure,. just depends on what its used for but after all that "skate" covers a more wider area and more generic, should really be 3x times the price of the other, so much for sedo appraisal
