Guys,

Academic question - anyone know when the original batch of .uk SLDs were created?

Best I can get is pre-Nom (<1996).

I’m assuming they were created in one batch - but am happy to be corrected by anyone who knows.

Bonus points for exact dates.m!

Cheers, Nick

According to the data files Nominet provide the earliest date of a CURRENTLY registered domain is 1994-08-02. However that doesn't mean there weren't earlier ones that have since dropped.

That's why they had the kerfuffle in ~03/04ish about Nominet forcing pre-Nominet domains onto the official Nominet T&C contract.

Lots got released around that time & got snapped up by a few usual suspects who 'knew a few issues' with the fairly new DAC at the time.

Lots of shit got swept under a very big carpet.

Bit later than I though, was part of the DAC beta. They were still doing prenom drops in Nov, just checked a domain from one of them. Bug I think was in the release cycle. WHOIS2 got a bit of abuse around then as well!
