Hi

What's the best drop catch software?
New to this although I did used to be very heavily involved in the domain name world and still have some very good 4 and 5 character domains.
I would like to try and add to my portfolio.

Thanks
Lee

Hi Lee,

You'll need quite a few things sorted out if you're going to run your very own catching software system. You'll need:

Drop lists
Nominet Membership
DAC subscription and TAG
Server resources close to Nominet's servers
Dropcatching software
Patience

PM me or (shameless plug) see my signature.

hello lee...

do not bother wasting your time... unless you have x,xxx to throw at it... as stated (and shamelessly blagged  ) just use an established DC individual / company here... like aZooZa etc just run a tagpile on the zone files and you can see who gets the good ones :p

there are only a few dozen good ones in the uk and a couple in the us (hint!) that actually catch anything... and most of them post or read here anyway... plus there is a new kid on the block, only a hop away from nic so he who pipes first catches first

you way forward, other than drops is lists, you can build great generics from lists and then find a gem to develop into a diamond mine

I did find some of your original posts amusing if not a little obscure, but I can't make head nor tail of what you're saying above. Let's look at what you just penned (verbatim):

"do not bother wasting your time..."

"like aZooZa etc just run a tagpile on the zone files..."

"there are only a few dozen good ones in the uk and a couple in the us (hint!) that actually catch anything..."

"...there is a new kid on the block, only a hop away from nic so he who pipes first catches first"

"you way forward, other than drops is lists, you can build great generics from lists and then find a gem to develop into a diamond mine"

What on earth are you talking about?

I guess your premise all starts to make (non)sense when I see one of your latest eBay listings:

Please don't start knocking me here when you know nothing of the quality of my resources. There are a few people here who will obviously want to remain incognito that use my services, so please can you run through all those quotes I wrote above in this post and tell me what you mean alongside each of them? I wouldn't want anyone to get the notion that you don't know anything of which you speak.

Anyway, if you want a good dropcatcher, just go to caught.co.uk.

interesting... as we are more than one and I am on let me answer...

it seems a wire may be crossed... the threader asked a question... your service was and is recommended... end of question... ;)

I did find some of your original posts amusing if not a little obscure, but I can't make head nor tail of what you're saying above. Let's look at what you just penned (verbatim):

"do not bother wasting your time..." >>> we have 23 registered tag holders in our network, that have TRIED the drop route all have failed... all have wasted time (& money) leave it to the experts :D

"like aZooZa etc just run a tagpile on the zone files... >>> this is the END of the sentence... there should be a comma / full stop after ETC... again recommending you / a similar service.

"there are only a few dozen good ones in the uk and a couple in the usa (hint!) that actually catch anything..." >>> there are only 11 GOOD drop catchers that we know of... of which 7-8 regularly CATCH requested / stock DN's... the couple here (us) run remote as they can afford too :-D

"...there is a new kid on the block, only a hop away from nic so he who pipes first catches first" >>> 2 individuals (a LLc) have "developed" some interesting web2 / ajaz apps that are hosted one hop away from the NEW nic building and are running a setup powered by £20k worth of bandwidth... so aka new kid on the block (toys / gadgets)

"you way forward, other than drops is lists, you can build great generics from lists and then find a gem to develop into a diamond mine" >>> again aZooZa your service & info would ASSIT noobs here and elsewhere.

What on earth are you talking about?

I guess your premise all starts to make (non)sense when I see one of your latest eBay listings: >>> will take that as a well done for thinking out the box ;)

Please don't start knocking me here when you know nothing of the quality of my resources. >>> "If you feel knocked then forgive the poster for promoting your services" There are a few people here who will obviously want to remain incognito that use my services, so please can you run through all those quotes I wrote above in this post and tell me what you mean alongside each of them? I wouldn't want anyone to get the notion that you don't know anything of which you speak.

>>> SO EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS, EVEN THE MASSIVE AMOUNT OF NON-INTERESTED NOOBS WITH $1000 TO SPEND ON CRAP DN'S... aZooZa is being RECOMMENDED by the post... thank you and let the fat lady sing!

Anyway, if you want a good dropcatcher, just go to caught.co.uk.

>>> yes caught.co.uk (for the threaders info) is an excellent choice!

Forgive me but are you saying that you regularly query the automaton (Nominet whois)?

I don't get this? Please explain in laymen terms? PM if necessary.

I am a little out of touch but if you explain the process a little clearer I will be fine. :)

Thanks in advance.

You have a low limit on whois, so you'll not get far before being blocked, however if you are a Nominet member you can have access to the DAC (look in the Nominet website for all the details), this allows you to do far more queries per day.

To catch names you simply query the DAC service and then when you name shows as free you submit a regsitration request and hopefully do this quicker than anyone else watching the same domain, if there's a lot of interest in your name, then a few miliseconds here and there may be the difference between a catch and seeing another TAG walk off with your domain.

How to implement this in a way that stands a good chance of catching a domain is down to you, but unless you have good coding skills or intend to catch a lot of domains, then you'll probably be better off using a catch service to get names.

I think his query was with "run a tagpile on the zone files" as with UK domains, you do not have access to zone files  and what on earth is a "tagpile"?

Superb review and simple!... rep added ;)

in laymens terms... a cross referenced tag DB which resides on a "standalone" server, piling changed tags/z files/drops... hence tagpile ;) not a common phrase.. but then again neither was "gobsmacked" 10 years ago!

A very thick tag that's quite nice to lie on?

S ;)

ROFL - maybe we should have said shag then...

I must admit that was a stumbling point when seeing streetdeeds and then posts regaling top end domain sales.

no stumbling there rob... 33,388 natural indexes in 2.3 months... we have not regaled any top end sales, they are just top heavy prices... open forum open minds...
