Hi All,

Just looking for a bit of your advice/experience really.

I have 2 domains:

Locksmithsonline dot co dot uk
Onlinelocksmiths dot co dot uk

I am thinking of having a site which advertises all the local locksmiths in your area and wondered what domain you think would work better if any?

Look forward to your feedback.

Thanks in advance

Online locksmiths would be pretty useless - not like they can pick a lock remotely is it :)

Locksmiths online however has the correct meaning :)

Or would you search for locksmith + location?

Between your two choices I'd go for locksmithsonline.

Do you plan to publish something different to what's already there? Could be a difficult nut to crack... or lock to pick I suppose

That's what I was thinking.

If it's just this, then it exists already. It's called Google.

Unless of course you can somehow bring some added value...

Hi guys,

Really appreciate your feedback and agree with what was said.

Like I say at the moment it's a case of brainstorming and deciding the best Route to go down.

Thanks again

I don't see the appeal (of either domain).

Locksmiths are a very local service, so having them "online" or not is hardly a plus.

If you're really going to go to the effort to do a proper job of building a directory site, you'd be better off choosing a service that lends itself more readily to being online AND getting a stronger domain name to go with it.

Plus how are you going to populate the directory? If you're going to research listings in Google, then
A) lots of locksmiths "bend the truth" about where they are (by using a PO box, residential address or similar) so that they will show up nicely on a Google Local search and on a Google Maps search. In other words, go to their listed address and you likely won't find a locksmith!
B) what information are you adding that Google doesn't already provide?

If I type "locksmith" into Google I see a list of nearby locksmiths (nearby to ME) on a Google map right at the top of the page. How can you hope to compete with that for such a narrow yet huge niche? (narrow because the number of searches will be relatively small in every town; huge because across the whole country you are going to have to list thousands of locksmiths)

If you had Locksmiths.co.uk the domain's strength just might make the effort worthwhile (still not convinced, but it's promising at least) but it's not worth doing with either of your 2 domains.

That's great feedback thank you.

If I was going to do anything with it, it was more going down the forum route. Maybe where locksmiths register and are able to chat etc.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply
