Assuming a popular word, obviously .com is worth the most.

Is .net worth more than .co.uk ?

.Net's are primarily used for ISP's services but are rapidly becoming the second alternative to .com for businesses. They are priced at well under a 1/4 the value for a .com and are easy to pick up averaging between £150-£500 at the cheaper end of the market. At the other end resides the likes of phones.net currently available at a mere £25,000.

IMO .net's aren't worth as much in terms of value when compared to a .co.uk however they have an important part to play in the future, after all we do call it the NET and what better descriptive terms are there? Ok it doesn't provide a local identity but then neither does a .com, unlike our .co.uk which indicates that the business is a company in the UK.

I have ThePorn.net (pm offers welcome) and around 50 other .net's and have had 35 enquiries and 3 sales so far. I think it's a case for watch this space who knows they may be BIG in 1-2 years time especially as there seems to be no valuable .com's available anymore!

that's what I'm thinking. I'm kind of surprised that for global brands and products, that .net's aren't worth more than .co.uk's.

After all, .co.uk's are pretty useless if your target audience is outside the UK whereas .net is good the world over. Hence, the popularity of .com even when no company is associated with the domain name.

Dot com is firmly established in the psyche now as the top level domain must have. It is strange tho why .net hasnt really become more mainstream by now, it does seem to behind .co.uk I find as well. Saying that, plenty of big companies have done very well using .net names as brands, Virgin.net springs to mind, sounds a lot better than Virgin.co.uk ;)

i have had people say one of my keyword .nets should go for $X,XXX.

Depends I guess.

Clara.net is another

You need to look at how you use the internet. If I'm searching for say spanishproperty i will try spanishproperty.co.uk .com and sometimes .net

If you were American I'm sure you would try .com and then .net??

.com's have additional value because if you enter a word in the toolbar in internet explorer and press ctrl and enter then it defaults to the .com of that word. i.e. cars ctrl and enter will go to cars.com

Does anyone know if you can set your default up to automatically go to the .co.uk instead??

allclear, thats the "i'm feeling lucky" tool.

i.e. cars.com is actuallly the top ranked site for the word cars.

It's got nothing to do with the tld!!

No try it. Always goes to the .com of the word you've put in.

i.e. try a site that doesn't exist

.net's are underestimated....

where are the businesses going to turn after the hyphens and numbers have run out for .com's?????.........net!!!!
