Probably banned like the last several new users for posting lots of cruft just to get 20 posts so they can post a crap name for sale?

One user recently PM'ed me about my 4L domains and was someone who'd just registered and was a paypal scammer - I made a thread about him... so maybe this guy is either a sock or trying something dodgy as well...

I think that scammers are trying to prey on people who spent up on taking the last 4L .com's as many are desperate to get rid...

Nothing strange IMO. Mods might have detected the IP as being used duplicate or was a previous banned member. Why speculate anyway? Could be numerious things breaking the terms of the site etc...

They way to get topics started that endlessly rant on about banned members, is to ban members.
On boards I admin I have a far more insidious technique.

I assume that you can add groups to a member. Just create a group that doesn't allow them to do anything and add n00bs to it. I call the group unDead.

meeboo was banned as he has scammed people on other forums by taking domains and not paying for them.

It doesn't matter how many posts he had, he has deceived people before so as soom as I saw this i banned him right away to protect members here.

I don't think admin needs to give reasons. "because I felt like it" would be acceptable when it's your site. There seems to be more and more spammers lately so I think there will be lots more banning.

It won't be much use, as I use Simple Machines. (The largest is http://www.talkawhile.co.uk)

I don't know if it applies to vBulletin, but I can make user groups that Deny some features and add the group to a members basic profile.
Stopping them doing anything is an extreme example, but I have other groups for example:
Minor - That disables PM's
Anon - Applied to people who join from anonymous email accounts and stops them doing things like starting new topics.
