I've been looking at a few different website/directory submitting software apps such as GSA Auto Website Submitter and All Submitter.

Has anyone used these and are they worth it, both in terms of time-saving and effectiveness?

Hi,

Put simply, no!

You are probably better off just linking to the site in question using signatures on popular forums, etc, and then submitting to Yahoo, DMOZ and MSN manually.

If you link directly to the site in question on a site that is crawled by Google on a regular basis, then it will be found and indexed by the 'Big G' automatically. There is absolutely no need to 'submit' to Google.

I hope this helps :)

Rhubarb, you don't submit to Yahoo or msn neither. They will crawl your site automatically.
I have at least 10 sites and all of them never submit to major search engines.

However if you are targeting local, you may submit to local search engines, that still counted as a backlink.

What you can also do, bookmark your site to some do follow social bookmarking sites, find it at socialposter.com.

then do some forums links building this work great.

I personally don't use that directory submitter. I use a different one. So I can't tell if it is good for you or not.

I haven't tried using any submitting software for directory submission. I still prefer doing this manually.

Well for me , Auto Submitting software have proved useless , I would rather prefer doing all the work my self or hiring someone to do the same .

I think this site is top notch for getting things listed, stick it in your signature and a few days later it should appear.

Personally I think directory submission might actually work if you have a site with good content & you choose the higher PR directories.

I now have 1 site at no.1 on google, another at no.4 & the only real links I've built for both are directory submissions.

I use submitEaze to do it almost automatically, making sure that I have a good selection of titles & descriptions for each site, and I also paid for a submitedge directory submission, purely because you get a report which lists all of the high PR direcotires that they use - which you can then import into submiteaze so that you can submit to those yourself.

$78.95 for SubmitEaze seems a bit steep but the submitedge starting at $15 is reasonable.

Yes it does sound steep, but I submit a lot of sites so overall it works out cheaper the pay for the submiteaze.

I have used such software and I think it is useless. It will submit your website to some directories that does not require registration. Usually these directories are crap.
