They are still using friggin MySql 3 (MySql 5 now the norm) and old PHP 4.3 (Now 5 too).

This means that you can't run the latest version of vBulletin with WebFusion...

Just found this out on one of my sites... Goddammit... The joys of website administration....
:mad::mad::mad::mad:

What services do you take from them? Pack your bags and move to a provider who keeps you happy is the best advice :)

Get used to it... I have never ever found WF or 123 or any of that family to be anything else but useless when it comes to resolving issues. I am happy to admit that they are very good at taking your money ;)

Just my experiences... happy to be convinced otherwise :|

i totally agree. I've been with them for years (actually with other companies that they then bought up) but for the last 6 months or so they do things like put up 'domain suspended' messages on my sites and after 3 days of trying to find out why the site suddenly went back to working again. No 'sorry' 'we messed up' or any apology. Just ignorance.
Obviously, I took all of my business, (a few thousand pounds a year) and went stateside. Funny thing is I am now paying around a third of what I was paying for much more PLUS superb service.

mysql and php support were the main reasons I ditched them. When I phoned to cancel the gimp on the phone did his best to convince me that all my software would work fine on the servers. The last call was trying to install the latest version of Wordpress.

They still made me go through a song and dance sending faxes to cancel the service and then continue to demand money after they had cancelled everything.

A client of mine is hosted with Pipex / Webfusion and we noticed the MySQL servers had gone down on Friday.

He rings and the conversation goes something like this...

Pipex: "nothing we can do, nothing is working"
Client: "do your pens still work?
Pipex: "well yes"
Client: "then write down my details and look into it when its up again"

I laughed my arse off when I heard that!

Can anyone recommend a good UK-based host with the latest PHP & MySQL...? I've looked at Rackspace but they are very expensive. Fasthosts only supports up to 150Mb SQL DB's ??!!
I once was with AmenWorld but left them after their cockups the other year.

I would go stateside for my hosting but a number of users on one of my sites are in the UK...

"Is good hosting in the UK so hard to find?"

I know this is a pain, but from their point of view... think about how many websites will break if they upgrade to PHP5.

I don't understand why this would be a problem.

I use a very good stateside host and one main reason I went with them is the 24/7 365 live support they provide.
