Problems validating the addresses of .uk domain registrants, which caused one registrar to dump the TLD entirely, are broader than I reported yesterday.

Cronon, which does business as Strato, announced last week that it has stopped selling .uk domain names because in more than a third of cases Nominet, the registry, is unable to validate the Whois data.

In many cases the domain is subsequently suspended, causing customer support headaches.

It now transpires that the problems are not limited to .uk second-level names, are not limited to UK registrants, and are not caused primarily by mailing address validation failures.

I'm having battle with nominet right now over potential DQ (Data Quality) issues, where I've been directed by them (nom) to potentially create DQ issues for clients/buyers.

I think there are many DQ issues over at the Ivory I mean Nom Palace.

Nominet are a pain in the backside with this (as they are with most of their 'policies'). When I catch for people sometimes they have not been validated and then all nominet do is send an email to sort it out and suspend after 30 days. It's then up to the registrant to chase round and sort it out. If they don't I get all the backlash. Nominet seem basically unable to validate outside of the UK and it causes problems for registrars etc.
Love this line: 'She pointed out that Nominet takes on the “lion’s share of the work”, reducing the burden on registrars.' - Utter BS.

I had a buyers new .co.uk purchase threaten with suspension. The address didn't seem out by much to me, the registrant field stayed the same. People will flee .co.uk if the assurance of ownership is undermined. .uk and now this :(

I've had problems with this too.

After DQ issues with a number of transfers, I specifically checked a transfer to a limited company with Companies House to confirm address, etc., All was good, but still got the dreaded email saying unable to verify. I pointed out that I had personally checked the address and verified it. It was then verified.

It seems that little effort is put into verification and this causes undue worry for the new Registrant.

Unfortunately they are still not verifying against Companies House as far as I'm aware, just their Experien sources which seems to just be credit reports and Royal Mail's PAF.

I'm hoping to implement a Companies House check our side to try and auto-verify a lot of the companies domains but seems silly to have registrars implementing their own processes because the registry can't do it right :-/

Having problems with this too - all my domains are with Daily and I use a "Scan My Post" mailing address (which is a proper UK street address)

For the last 4 or 5 months any time I register a domain (either co.uk or .uk) I get emails saying it has failed data validation, even though it is exactly the same address which has been previously verified for all my other domains.

Whenever I contact Nominet about this they say the failure is with Daily's system as apparently accredited registrars do all the validation themselves. Whenever I contact Daily they say this is untrue and that it is Nominet's system that is rejecting my address.

It gets sorted in the end but I always have to email Daily to do manual verification. It's getting a bit irritating though!

I believe Nominet are planning some improvements, so if a registrar has already verified and address, other domains on their tag won't be flagged again with that address because it's already been done by the registrar - Not in place yet though.

Daily can verify it because they've already checked it's fine so yes, it's Daily's job to do it ... but only because Nominet aren't checking to see if it's already been done.

ridiculous, without warning BAM registration suspended. No care for the owner or their business interests

It shouldn't be without notice, you should get a notification when it's flagged and then have 30 days to correct it.
