Transferred loads of .uk domains through Nominet, but never transferred a .com domain before.

How do you do it?

Thanks in advance.
Andrew.

You get an authorisation code from the company who you host the domain with. Usually from within your control panel.

Make sure the domain is unlocked.

You give this code to the new owner and they transfer it in.

You get an email which you can click to verify the transfer or you can ignore and they will autogain it after a week or so.

With a com you could always get the new owner to create an account at your host company and do a domain push.

Hi Caz,

I requested a transfer from fasthosts to 123. Unlocked domain 1st @ FH, than started transfer on 123-REG. Still no email requesting permission to transfer. Email not in spam and address double checked first!

(how long does this usually take? - I requested it at 5pm - 8 hours ago.) The status of 123-REG says;

Requested: 2011-02-18 Updated: 2011-02-18

The domain has been requested and an email has been sent out to the admin contacts admin email address, which needs to be authorized.

Thanks for any pointers

If it's a .com between registration services - I believe anything upto and around 5 days is common. Hence Caz recommendation to get the client to create an account at the sponsoring registration service and then internal push (about 10 minutes to complete)

note: 60 day lock on further transfer

Thanks Bailey!

The owner is still the same person, just wanted to get as far away from fasthosts as possible - don't like them, the way they handle stuff, etc.

123-REG are much better IMO.

Best service for .co.uk without a doubt - though the yank services for all their faults do know how to deliver 247 on .coms -

I do like 123-regs 42 day grace on .coms - you won't find that anywhere else

Finally got the request;

Dear [email protected],

123Reg/Webfusion are requesting a transfer of the domain name domain.com; if accepted they will then manage your domain.

domain.com is currently with the registar: TUCOWS INC.

We are contacting you because you are listed as the Administrative contact for the domain within the WHOIS database.

The following link will take you to a page where you will have the following two options;

1. Authorise the request and transfer the domain name to 123Reg/Webfusion.
2. Decline the transfer request and remain with your current registrar.

https://www.approvemove.com/?jargonjargonjargonjargonjargonjargon

If you wish to Authorise the transfer:

- You will need the Auth Code which you can get from the current domain provider.
- The transfer will take up to 5 days to complete (provided your current provider does not reject the request)
- Once the transfer has completed, you will be unable to transfer again for 60 days.
- The domain registrar will become 123Reg/Webfusion where your domain configuration and renewals will take place.

If you do not confirm or reject the request before 26/02/2011 then the request will automatically fail.

To prevent future unauthorised transfer requests you may wish to lock your domain. This will decline all transfer requests automatically.

Note that contrary to what I read, about it being automatically approved, the domain will not get transferred unless it has been approved by the owner.

Thanks for all your help/advice guys

Thats correct - It would be scary otherwise,
I still get the occasional unauthorised (not requested) .com transfer request.

In the very old days it was an automated approval system - unless the transfer was declined - A total nightmare

What are the Procedure to Transfer .co.uk

Please can members advice me on how to transfer a .co.uk because it has no auth code. How can I go about it. Thanks in advance.

Doesn't the domain have to be something like 60 days old before it can be transferred as well?

There are no auth codes with .uk domain names.

In order to transfer a domain:

1) Login to your Nominet account associated with the domain, click on "registrant transfer" in the top menu.

2) The next page will tell you the transfer fee is £12 including VAT, click next.

3) Next page, enter the domain name or names in the box (one domain per line) and click next.

4) Next page, click the confirm button.

5) Next page, enter the email address of the person you are sending the transfer to, and tick either box stating that you or the receiver are paying the transfer fee, click next.

6) Next page, tick the box to confirm and hit next.

7) Next page, check the details of the transfer are correct, if so, tick the confirmation box, then click next.

8] You are now finished and the receiver of the transfer will get a domain transfer email from Nominet.

If you're transferring more than one domain that you hold on the same Nominet tag, you can send those domains on the same transfer for just one single transfer fee.

You need to log into your Nominet account at Nominet.org.uk and log into your account, now select on the top nav bar 'registrant transfer' it will then say 'transfer 1 or more doamins' you select NEXT.

Now Select domain names you wish to transfer to someone else below:
Where you select 1 or more domains (upto 20 max) to transfer.

Then click NEXT and it will say enter the recepitants e-mail address (make sure you have the proper one off the buyer) it will also give you the option to select 'I will pay the transfer fee' or 'The new registrant will pay the transfer fee' sort that with your buyer first.

When you have entered the recepitants e-mail address press NEXT.

Now it will say as a statement, 'You are transferring the domain bristolboats.co.uk to eg, [email protected]

Underneath there is a box saying 'I agree to this statement' if your ready to transfer then click the box so it shows a tick and press NEXT.

Now it says Thank you - your part of the registrant transfer has been completed.

The new recepitant will recieve an e-mail from Nominet asking them to accept the transfer, they click on it and it takes them through to Nominet where they can keep the current registrar or choose a new one from a list.

Done
