I think Music is crap :) Likewise memorable and brandable are two different things.

Truely 'white canvas' names would be proper bland names such as some of the colours or single words. Even then some have pre-existing associations that may be seen in a postive or negative light ie. Green, Pink, Grey etc.

Similarly the 'radio test' would fail due to the non-existant spelin' ability of people so gorgeous / incredible would be out.

Silly / Insane / Crazy would have implications along the lines of mental health (wrongly) association.

I can feel what you are trying to ask, but I think the question is wrong. To sum up best, who would start a business on Joke.co.uk , that does not mean it isnt a 5fig name.

I'm not so convinced of all of them. earth.co.uk wouldn't be on there, but something like fresh.co.uk would :)

What about made up names?

If you are going to brand a name, then do you think made up names like (turn the clock back), Google, Yahoo, Napster, Bebo, Jamster amongst others are still as viable as something like Blue, Orange, Fresh etc.

If you are going to spend money on branding then IMO you might as well find something unique and create that words meaning into whatever your site is about as opposed to trying to convince people that a name with other meanings is on topic for the site that you develop?

Does that make sense or do I need another coffee and cigarette?

To borrow Rob's phrasing, in terms of white canvas brandability... click.co.uk is a fantastic domain and would be the most versatile in my opinion.

click dot co dot uks company i used to own shares in, i sold them a large loan network three years ago for cash and shares but sold them subsequently :(. They got the name for a good price and its a great name that suits their business.

Date.co.uk
Loan.co.uk
would be strong contenders for the list.....

Im specifically aiming this at Non commercial/product specific names - loan .co.uk is commercial really, good name

Date.co.uk
Loan.co.uk
would be strong contenders for the list.....

music .co.uk great name but is sort of commercial really - im aiming this at the totally sort of alomost meaningless 'brandable' namess - like inferno .co.uk I forgot about that - good one..

What about music.co.uk?

Surely must make the top 50 most brandable?

yeah you got my drift, im not getting it across well

i forgot about hey.co.uk ;)

true about gorgeous .co.uk really nice word but difficult for the massive..

Huh, this is an old(ish) thread that I don't remember seeing...

When it comes to the radio test source.co.uk would be no good! You would have to own sauce.co.uk too!

great.co.uk could be on that list :)

Rich
