Hi

I own 3 domain names that a company wants as the contacted me, They offered me £50 for all 3, which i turned down,

The person who wanted the domain names then proceeded to call the number of the whois every 15 mins and wont stop until he speaks to me the owner,

Eventually i got around to calling him and he told me to **** off

I decided that this was enough and emailed that I would transfer the domain names to him,

This is what I said

> Further to our brief telephone call last night are you still wanting the
> following domain names, I was calling to talk about the transfer of these
> domain names to yourself before you decided to put the phone done
>
3 domains here listed in email
>
> If you want these domain names email me back
>
> Kerr

This is what he said back

you have a choice m8, you either freely give them to me for the cost they were to you, or you wait for my soliciters letter to be sent to your parents house, they are not so important to us now as they were on tuesday, we have missed the crucial 24 hour period where they would have been relevent, in a week they will be useless to you, the choice is yours

also, your company name, your name , your parents address etc will be going in every single tv/radio and magazine article we do, and the reason why you took the domain names and the porn sites they were used for ok ? happy with that ?

From my side the domain names are 2 days old and were parked and now resolving to nowhere, Is he trying to blackmail in someway and what can i do about this? Do I have a criminal case with regards to this at all with his threats?

I have offered to transfer these domains and he just gives me abuse, The person has been on TV recenlty in the uk

Anyhelp and advice please would be great

:)

banging 'martin cowley' into google comes up with some dragons den bloke.

I am guessing you nicked his name? :)

http://webwhois.nic.uk/cgi-bin/whois.cgi?query=martinsjerkedmeat.co.uk

Cybersquatting at its finest! :) Poor form that they did not register the .uk as well as the .com

Apologise , transfer the names for a fiver and move on. Also , stop regging such stupid domains - you are the same bloke who regged a guys name on the day he died if I remember correctly. If you are that desperate for cash start a begging thread...!

Instances such as these are the types of times when domainers and domaining ends up in the public media, and it continues the very wrong view that it is a murky industry full of people with very low standards.

Fandie, your first step would be to tell your parents, if you are a minor in the legal sense. This person is threatening, harrassing and blackmailing you and is committing criminal offences. They might be on TV all over again for the wrong reasons. Don't contact them again until you have had advice.

Edit: As per Rob's comment -- I have no idea who/why/what you registered. If it was a stupid registration on your part, then you need to take care. Doesn't detract from my comments above.

Further edit: Not the guy with the red punk hair? That would have been silly. Mind you, he was also silly.

UPDATE FROM HIM

UPDATED EMAIL FROM HIM

Really ? I would be more than happy for you to go to the police lol, seriously, we have all the emails we have sent between us, please feel free to carry on, Im way more careful than you think, i havent breached any laws, I havent rung your mum since i got your email, though I was within my rights to contact you via any medium i see fit and that you give out as your contact details, you offered to sell the domains to me, you wanted me to pay quite alot for them ( i assume, though Im not sure but I doubt you were going to offer them to me for the price you paid)
martin
p.s it was my solicitor that suggested the course we're taking, though i may not use his services on you as he explained that
A. he will have to charge me for each thing he does and his fee's aint that cheap
B. the domains arent worth the money i would have to pay him to get them, if you want to make a polite and once only offer to sell them to me for what they cost you I will listen, but if you arent please dont bother to contact me again
C. hes very interested that you have been checking up on our business at companys house etc and buying up ALLEDGED DOMAINS.NAME you showed way more interest in buying stuff up soley because of our conection and the TV profile we received to be a mere accident

I did offer to hand the domain names over in a email then recived all the following email

you have a choice m8, you either freely give them to me for the cost they were to you, or you wait for my soliciters letter to be sent to your parents house, they are not so important to us now as they were on tuesday, we have missed the crucial 24 hour period where they would have been relevent, in a week they will be useless to you, the choice is yours

I have then asked what he meant by the following quote

also, your company name, your name , your parents address etc will be going in every single tv/radio and magazine article we do, and the reason why you took the domain names and the porn sites they were used for ok ? happy with that

I recieved this response

Of course i contacted you to buy them, i was willing to pay you £50 for them on the night, they are not so important now, yes i would like them but only at cost price, as for the "threat" of naming you in the dailys ? its not illegal, i was simply going to say in each interview that you cant contactus through thos particular domains as they were bought by you and where you live incase anyone tried to contact us via them, nothing illegal there, though to be honest i would not have mentioned your mothers address as she already had to listen to me trying to contact you, you had plenty of opportunity to contact me and you waited, so you can rest easy on that account her address is nothing to do with it, i may be miffed but not that miffed or unfair , as for my solicitor he doesnt want you to contact him as to talk to him YOU would have to pay for the privilage not me ( its good to have a family member whos in the legal profesion), now finaly , if you want to sell me them for the price you paid I'm fine with that, otherwise dont email me again , otherwise i will assume your harrasing me
Name removed

Fandie

Any individual that uses
in correspondance isn't worth the time of day.. I wouldn't respond to them again, i'd record all further phone calls, inform the police of the threats and wouldnt give then anything

fandie sell em to me, I love abuse and an argument. I hate bullies and that looks like what they are trying here.

If you want to sell that is, don't give in to abuse, ride it it's fun. Keep sending silly emails back. Put them through Microsoft translator first and just tell them your legal representative is from China as it's all you could afford, cheaper than British Lawyers.

I have already had confidential dealings with Dragons Den and lets just say they know my name.

But some good advice above, both positive and negative for you but all valid.

Just checked the name that's quoted by Rob and if it's him, he appears to be some schmuck who thinks he's been on TV. Not actually anything to do with Dragons Den programme.

Olebean is right, anyone that writes a letter like that can't be taken seriously in a legal matter.

Ultimatley Rob's right aswell, and bit poor form registering some small guys name, someone so unknown it seems a waste of £6 aswell.

But measure that against the guy's attitude and the way he's dealt with you, bit borderline the way forward. Personally now I know a little behind what's gone on, just call it a draw and surrender them back to nominet.

I think he IS the guy that was on the Den. The guy punting the dried meat -- with 'er indoors, both with red hair. Go to the .com and it mentions the Den. He didn't get his money though. No credibility. PJ (aka 'Blondie') was definitely not impressed with the attire :D

Just flagged it up now on sky plus and your right it is him!

Personally cybersquatting isn't too bad if it's against someone who can afford the £750. That's the way I look at it, they should have registered it themselves at the end of the day.

As for someone going on the Dragons Den dressed like that and being unheard of, begging for money. He probably doesn't have the £750 to give you. So not sure that is ethical and I wouldn't have registered it if being honest.

I'd just surrender/delete them and move on. £15 and lesson learnt.

Good luck with it.

I would just give them to GWing rather than delete them or hand them over and simply state you have sold them to another party.

That should wind him up a treat.

I have a dragons den domain name from the last series. Difference is they were one of the successful winners and are also featured in the "where they are now" episodes (traffic went crazy when that was on)

Fandie, tell him you will transfer the domains and ask him for his details so you can fill out the transfer forms. Once you have them tell him to F*ck off or you'll stick his details in tw@t haircut weekly. Who'd buy food of of him anyway? The swampy could do with a bar of soap!

Didn't someone here have "thenuts.co.uk" and Dragons den project had "the nutspokerleague.co.uk" heard he did o.k out of it. Although he had it well before the dragons den showed it.

Beats me why they go on about "have you trademarked this, have you trademarked that" and the inventors go yep trademark / patent pending etc fully protected and yet 6 weeks after the show has been filmed and even on the night it has been aired. They still haven't got their domain names sorted and just asking to be registered.

The one I had was funny, wasn't a contestant on there neither ;)

Interesting thought... if he has said:

...give them to me for the cost they were to you,...

What's stopping you agreeing to that, getting it in writing from him, and then producing an invoice from 'your supplier' with 'registration fees' that are, how shall I put it, not that competitive.

Note:
Having said that, I tend to agree with rob's earlier post on this one.

Cant you just swap them for some pork pies or something?
