My screen protectors site is constantly disappearing from SERPS, one day its there next day it's gone, sometimes its there for a week then its gone for a week.

This has been going on for 4 months, I know all about the google dance, sandboxing and all that guff, but when will it end.

Because of the nature of the site I am always adding new pages as new products are launched, whether this has anything to do with it I dont know?

The last two days it has been in google SERPS and made 8 sales, but today it is gone again, for how long...who knows?

How the hell is one supposed to build up decent Revenue and Visitor stats if the site is spending 50% of the time in oblivion.:(

Nope its not a wordpress site, it's all handcoded HTML products are sourced and added manually so no feeds.

I'm wondering if it's because of the URL reference in your meta description. Try removing that, lengthening your description by another 5 or 6 words and seeing if that makes a difference.

Open Site Explorer says the site only has links from one root domain (this forum).

You need links to rank period. Exact match gives you a leg up on the competition but it doesn't mean you can just ignore the basics of SEO

Well I believe the basics of SEO are in the HTML so I am not ignoring the basics of SEO.

When the site is in google SERPS it is in good positions for search terms, (page 1-3) hence it makes sales when in, this is with no link building.

I have been reluctant to spend time on building links when the site sometimes disappears for 3-4 weeks, I need the site to settle first so I can monitor my link building efforts and have a reference point.

Your theory does not explain why the site is constantly disappearing and re-appearing, if it had too few back links why would it not just settle in a position, whether that was page 1, or page 100?

It sounds like you have been waiting for the site to settle for months with no joy. So why continue that approach as it's obviously not working?

Honestly, build some links to the site and I would put money on the fact it will stop disappearing for weeks on end. Doesn't need to be millions, 1/2 a day for couple of months should do it and don't forget to deep link.

The reason it's dancing is because Google is trying to decide where it belongs in the SERPs - give them some help by pointing some links at it

Cheers JWM, I will start building some links then, it cant do any harm, and might just work.

I agree with the above. Think of having no links as being a very 'weak' ranking which is easily influenced. With good quality links you can turn that into a dominate and 'strong' position.

Definitely agree with jwm - fluctuations like this generally occur when your site has the *potential* to rank that high but is let down by a lack of trust and authority. As you build more links in you should find it settles in a high position - but do make sure you mix up your anchor texts, don't just link exclusively with the text 'screen protectors' or you might find you get knocked back a bit.

I have the exact same problem denchomsky, I link build too and it still makes no difference. Yet I've got other sites that follow the same principles with less links and they don't bounce around at all. It's a weird one...
