Having read plenty of fun and interesting discussions on .tel domains I'm now curious for opinions on a drunken impulse buy a few weeks back, which of course happened before I'd read the discussions about .tel domains.

pokersite.tel / freebingo.tel

What would you do with them? Do you think they're worth more than the reg-fee as they stand today? Answers on a postcard below... :D

Well, you've had time to think about this ...

You've not put anything in to add value. Set them up as minisites to avoid a TLR. But then, you need advertisers, and it is difficult to find advertisers, if your domain is gambling related. Adsense is inappropriate because they don't do gambling.

Pokersite - one keyword, not a lot of hope. Nobody wants to give away real info - that is what the real players use to make money. It might be possible to set up a forum for the purpose of circulating passwords to freebie tournaments, but I don't see a lot of those about nowadays, and you need the Black Hat on to get the info.

freebingo - there's a lot of free bingo about, it may be a good idea to collate info and work up a minisite from that - and run a chat forum. Forums need regular attention, but if you're lucky they become self-governing. Whatever, you need something to set your site apart from similar sites.

Smowtion is a possible source of advertising.
These domains need work to get your money back. It is easier to see a way forward with the FreeBingo site. Poker strategy changes so fast these days, it is hard to write beginners' articles, let alone something significant.

Before the US forbade gambling for its inhabitants, it was relatively easy to win at poker on the internet. Now the "turkeys" have to stay at home, all the players read magazines about poker, and it is very hard work to make money at poker. To make money, you have to sit down with people you used to avoid, and hope you get lucky.

Pointless having them, you should stop drinking ;)

.tels are 1-page only with contact details, you can't develop them and i can't see anyone thinking ooh i better goto freebingo, tel and get the phone number for some guy who can tell me where to get bingo for free.

They would just search Google for free bingo.

Only another 11 months and you can wipe your hands with them.

Hope i've not offended you but they're worthless.

The .tels that will fetch money are ones like Ben,tel and other peoples names.

Good luck

You can link, you can use free storage for images, articles, etc., and free forum providers. One page is where you land ...ingenuity is not forbidden.

Hello doodlebug, thanks for the reply.

It started when 123-reg kindly offered them me at the top of their search results page, I ticked the box and went through checkout *as if they were normal domain extensions* - not thinking to myself "what's a dot tel?" - I guess I could be shouting at 123-reg for misleading me.

Crabfoot is suggesting to build a website on it? Has he been drinking too? :D

Only joking, there is a way of building sub-pages and links but it's limited, could have some possibilities now I've read more.

I'm going research further, hopefully turn these in to a positive buy. Typing .tel monetisation in Google came up with some more info and opinions.

Cheers,

Paolo.

I don't doubt that someone has found a way to monetise them but its a workaround, a bit like washing your face with a badger it'll do the job but who really wants to?

There'll be some big headline grabbing .tel sales but how genuine they are will be open to debate and in general I can't foresee many being shifted for big bucks. Just put it down to experience.

cheapho.tel (domain hacks available)
boutiqueho.tel

i personally hate ,tels but hey
