When .tel names first came on the market, I registered just a few after getting caught up a little in the hype of it all.

Not long after I declined an offer of £100 for one of them.
(something I obviously regret now)
Anyway, since then they ended up on my 'forgotten about' list.

However, I haven't heard of anyone using them or trading in them since they came on the scene.

Upon searching the Acorn forums, I found a few threads about them, for example:
http://www.acorndomains.co.uk/domain-name-wanted/52793-looking-buy-tel-domain-names.html
and
http://www.acorndomains.co.uk/domain-name-news/57972-momentum-grows-tel-uk-reuters.html

So I can see that one or two established members had .tel domains in their portfolio, albeit nearly 3 years ago, and other members loathed .tel domains.

I'd be interested to know if anyone still has .tel domains, still buys them, or what the current opinion on them (value-wise) is now, 3 years on.

Many thanks,
Steve

and 123 reg were hyping the bollocks off it as well - http://www.acorndomains.co.uk/domain-name-registrars/49911-tel-top-123-reg.html

Perhaps give this lot a ring and ask them where the 'investment' went... anywhere else this would be a pump n dump scam.

i've still got quite a few and plan to keep them and continue using them - they are much harder to trade then your .com/.net/.org or .co.uk/org.uk but they do still sometimes change hands and i've flipped a number (just sold another today) and also bought a few more over the last few months. prices aren't earth shattering and it's not something you would retire on :)

I wouldn't advise buying into them simply to domain trade, but they do rank/generate traffic with long tail keywords so all depends on what your goal/use is for them. daily list of reg's / drops here - pretty low volume stuff: http://dottel.net

Soon, the landrush domains are going to drop en masse as their initial 3-year term is coming to an end. That will be slaughter.

Rob: thanks for the extra links - good reading, which confirmed my feelings.

dta: was hoping you'd pop into this thread ! Thanks for your input, and for the link - took a look around that site.
The few .tel's I have do not have any quality keywords in them tbh - I bought them for directory purposes in the days when I knew not what I was doing.
So I'm gonna let mine expire soon.
I wish you well with your .tel trading :)

sdsinc - I agree - will be interesting to see what happens. Thanks for your response.

For me it’s what you regged? how lucky you were and your expectations of its and value, saleability rtc I just registered peoples names, occupations and some geo locations names nearly always sell (has to be appropriate for the extension though peter john jack etc and a global TLD yes, same names with a Korean extension etc probably not) Most are probably vanity purchases I know, Personally didn’t think products etc went well with it so wasn’t in my want list..

I figured sliding scale 10x 7x 5x 3x general registration would work (Occupations the same) got an an average of about 7 x, You need a set number of registrations to make it worthwhile, Many variables my main cost, target audience, extension limitations, time. As far as I know none I sold have dropped and most do actually use them???. Had hoped more workable voip integration but it hasn't appeared yet don’t know if it will either, Never thought "investment " but are any domains..? There was a buck to make there though :D
