If you have time, please take a look at my gadget blog and let me know what you think.

How's the layout, concept, seo...

Still a bit of work to do but the layout is pretty much set.
Thanks for any tips/comments

This error occurs for me in IE but not Firefox.

Thanks for that - big help - I've been trying to track this bug down across a few browsers - I'm on a mac.

Will try and solve it before I sleep!

Could it be this:

<img src="" alt="" class="imgspcaer" />

Aside from that little error I like it. I culd perhaps do with one more featured article, or some other content at the bottom left, but that aside it's a good layout, and a memorable name.

Thanks for that newguy, that typo is also in the css of the theme too, so I've just left it. I guess some browsers need the custom field to have a value and not be empty for the theme so I'll just have to make sure I inlcude an image with all featured posts.

I've just added a post on 3 billion apps downloaded from the app store.

What do you think of the layout? Especially of the Tech blog homepage, which is now filling out a bit?

A bit weird how the featured technology news and latest tech news may show the excerpt for the same post next to each other, but I guess Featured articles should stay longer and the latest posts change more often.

Here are some thoughts from me:

- Title text "Technology, Ideas & Life Blog" needs to be bigger and bolder.

- I do not like the very light grey for titles such as "Featured Article", "Featured Videos". It's making the site difficult to scan. They need to be brighter colour, possibly with small bullet graphic in front too, to make site easier to scan.

- Blog post titles like "3 billion Apps downloaded from Apple" need to be bigger to differentiate them.

- Image of iPhone Apps should come within article rather than before it. It's a bit confusing as to what it is at the moment.

- Typo spotted on Write page "site partners and as such you have the opportunity to share in the webiste ad revenues", should be "website".

- Get more images of cool tech products visible within the first screen's worth of the home page, so people go "hey, this site is cool".

Hope that helps. If you find the feedback useful, I'd appreciate a laptop review.

Thanks Accelerator - really appreciate you taking the time, I'll have a look at your latop site - and either reply here, or if you have another thread on Acorn I'll track it down.

As for my tech site I've fixed the typo and will have a think about your other comments. I must have gone through about 200 variations of the logo and tag line (including bold) and it took me ages but I decided on what it is - has started to grown on me, but will see what others say too.

I'm also kinda fond of the grey titles - one thing that I need to do is get more articles on there so that the theme sections fill up a little more. I think then it might be easier to know how changes might look.

Ok I'll take a look at your site now.

thx again

I know that it's because Future Junk is a new website, but it's great to log in to analytics and see that the traffic has gone up every day - even if it is only 90 uv's - thats a whopping 4400% over last month!

That's a great start, and the publics' obsession with technology seems more apparent now than ever. I'll be keeping a keen eye on your site!

Thanks for taking a look - this project is really taking off - just need to write more content and fix some of the css bugs (I think the submit and search buttons in some brownsers are floating).

New guy, if you had a tech article in you somewhere it would be great if you'd consider guest authoring and writing occasionally. The site now splits adsense revenue 50:50 with authors (you just have to set it up with your adsense publisher id and 2 other codes).

Take a look at my other thread if you're interested.

There's a programme on the BBC at the moment about 80s and 90s electronics, can't remember what it's called, but it kits out a house with old technology. You might get some traffic by talking about that.

Thanks for the tip AC

I would love to be watching that program but am stuck in New York!
Live here now and I still haven't been able to find a way to get most of the UK channels over the web.

There are services (Zattoo and Livestation) but I think I need a UK proxy for most UK channels - does anyone know?

Hi Disruptive,

At the moment there's no where in the design for link exchanges.

What I'm planning on doing in future is to have a section for authors to have a brief bio at the end of every article submitted and also an author page. You'd be able to include a link in these sections if you signed up.

Will hopefully have this done by the end of the week.

I'm still trying to encourage people to signup and submit articles. Enter your adsense details in the user control panel and your google ads show up 50% of the time.

WoopWoop, nice site, nice clean logo, good graphics! Good job!

Also your adsense sharing model is smart, I have been running something similar the past couple of months and it is a great way of lowering costs for content writing and really encouraging your authors to produce quality articles!

Thanks Fraggle (I had a little help from a theme) - but I customised it a bit :)

Really tough getting quality articles at the moment and I'm not the best writer. I just love WP though - lots of really useful plugins and I like the SMF forum I'm using over theere even though I only have RSS posts at the moment.

Fingers crossed - I hope the revenue share does encourage users to submit quality articles - the site has been making money so far, so anyone who does submit would see revenue.

A slingbox in a UK relative's house would be an option:

Slingbox.com - Slingbox

I do agree with others - Your blog titles need to be different (size, font).

The pictures underneath 'featured article' makes all the difference. Not only does it get rid of that annoying error, but it also improves the whole look of the page!

Thanks - for the feedback. I'm working on a few changes and the traffic is continuing to grow.

Just difficult to come up with articles all the time - need more people on board ;)
