Heard on the news that online US casino's in about 2 weeks time will not be able to process online credit card transactions due to a change in law?!

Not sure of the full story or what is the predicted result of the new law about to be passed but will it be good news for .co.uk casino domains??

I only have two gambling related domains...

LoveCasino.co.uk

GreatGamble.co.uk

Would be nice if I could sell one or the other for a resonable amount!

Whats your take on things?

I am unsure if the US casinos will move operations to another country.....

yeah.. i heard 888.com pulled the plug on US affiliates yesterday..

As you may have heard, the United States Congress has passed a law barring US based individuals from sending funds to online gaming sites. The new legislation is expected to come into force shortly.

In light of these considerations, the 888.com group has concluded that it is appropriate to suspend participation by U.S. based customers in our online poker and online casino products. As of today, we will not allow real money registrations of new U.S. based customers.

In light of these changes we urge you to focus your activities as a member of the 888.com Affiliate Program only towards non U.S. based individuals. In the coming days we will offer tools that will enable you to target traffic by country. Any U.S. based individuals referred by you to our Internet sites will not be permitted to open new real money accounts and you will therefore not be able to receive any commissions in relation to such persons. Please note that there are no new restrictions under the new law which prevents you from promoting the 888 brands to non-US players. Please contact us at [email protected] or your account manager for further details.

In recent years the 888.com group has pursued a strategy of building its brand and business in markets outside the U.S. In the month of September approximately 65% of first time depositors (Real New Players) recruited by our affiliates were non-U.S. based.

The 888.com group remains a viable and profitable business and looks forward to pursuing growth opportunities in its international markets with continued vigor. We look forward to continuing working with you to help us grow in these international markets.

Sincerely,

888.com
Affiliate Program

It's not US casinos, its US consumers of Casino / gambling sites.

Checkout the UK gambling companies share prices like partygaming, 888 etc. they are in free fall, reducing the company value by half or more in some cases.

I'm guessing as a result of the USA population about to be taken out of the gaming market (or any new subscribers at least)

But will we not now get US gamblers looking for gambling .co.uk's and others

I'm thinking that UK casino's like red32 and bluesq etc are rubbing their hands at all the new business about to come their way?!

I'm sure they'll find a way around it somehow. Either taking the financial side offshore or some other workaround.

What about the use of third party moneybrokers like netteller?

I see this as a back-handed way to kill the online business - so rather than say "online gambling is illegal", they say credit card payment for online gambling is illegal - very sneaky. What about using your paypal account instead, is this allowed? You can top up your PP account from your credit card!

There is still a large amount of business to be had from European gamblers, but about 60% of the market is from the US.

just reminds me of 1920's prohibition... it'll get a backlash when the money all goes offshore. Come the next election when the democrats get in it'll get repealed. US politics stink. The evangelical and puritanical god fearing lets not lose votes we're all going to hell unless you do as I say system makes me sick.

JMO - The gambling companies have only themselves to blame.

In the long-term the move away from CC to debit only will prove better for all parties.
If anything a non cc - debit based system would have been best from the outset.
Consumers have been calling for 'credit' controls to be put in place for years.
TBH - I agree with them that banning CC gambling is good.
Countless people have been affected by lax approaches.
Systems should have been in place from the outset.

Just like in the adult industry where Title18 and BBFC classification is required,
like-wise online gambling should have checks in place to protect those involved...
ESPECIALLY from systems that can get them into debt.

Just personal thoughts - Not the opinion of a self-righteous git... lol
