Just received this excuse from Sedo for a buyer who says he accidentally paid too much for one of our domains. Has anyone else ever received a similar excuse? I'm not too bothered on this one because we were selling the domain too cheap anyway. But wondered what legal position is. Could someone use a similar excuse for not completing a major purchase made during a frenetic auction?

The buyer of the domain informed that he actually wanted to bid 250£ only for the domain, but " I have made a complete error through the slip of a mouse button"

Hi Admin,

Sedo took a day to let us know. Perhaps the bidder went into shock for a while :)

I had the same thing, bid £1000 (i accepted) then said he meant £100..... TW*T.

Hi Everybody,

These sort of excuses do come up a lot, and are of course frustrating for all of us. The big problem we have is differentiating between genuine mistakes and people who are just trying to cover themselves while pulling out of deals - both of these things happen relatively often. Any time someone pulls out of making a deal we make a note of it before cancelling the transfer, making it easy to spot people who have done such things more than once - this of course helps to catch out those who are not behaving in a way we would expect from our customers.

We warn all buyers who pull out of deals that the threat of legal action exists, and also of the consequences for their Sedo accounts (locked from further bids etc).

Nigel, when you say 'Sedo waited a day to let you know', may I ask what you mean exactly? A day after agreement was reached?

Regards,

Shaun
