I've always done mini sites with a few pages of content and managed to get them ranking well. Now I'm giving that up and want to create 1 or 2 decent sites. Question is.... doing a minisite I would have 500-1000 words of content with the domain keyword within it on each page. Looking at doing a decent full site most of the big sites/companies have hardly any text on their sites. Al ot of it is content boxes with graphics.
How do you get these sort of sites ranked on page 1? is it purely link building?

It's difficult to say when you don't give any examples (or even mention the industry you're referring to). Do you mean big companies as in smallish national companies, or giant corporations?

I would say a lot of it is link building...primarily focusing on the index page to get the overall domain authority up, and then also focusing on a few key pages or subdomains. A lot of the bigger companies will attract endless natural links though (like Adobe).

The more and more I looking into SEO and increasing rank, it seems to come down to links from other sites - and natural links if possible. A lot easier said than done!
