Just wondered
obviously a good page rank comes from good SEO and a good SEO point is appropiate content, but however if your site contains ( say ) product feeds ( descriptions ) does Google etc count this as your sites content or does it disregard it because it as come an outside source

What i am getting at is do things such as product feeds help you get a better ranking ?

I am sure it does but would like someone to confirm Thanks 8)

Opinions Please :)

Most of the time feeds will be non-unique dupe content, so they won't help much with ranking your site highly. That said, at least they are something there, which you might not have had otherwise.

The most important factor in SEO is getting links in from other high quality websites.

If you have some content rich, informative sites then I would be interested in a link exchange.

I suspect it depends on context. If your site is all feeds, then you can expect swift demotion to SEO Hades. If however, you have lots of good, original content already there and the feeds are a useful addition, then it'll probably help... keeps your site from seeing stale.

Many high placed sites use feeds, so they can't be totally bad.

Mike.

Thanks for your answers guys
I wondered because i setup MarshallMathers.co.uk without doing much to it and it now ranks 28 on Google and 3 on Yahoo for Marshall Mathers.
I know he usually is searched for as Eminem but Marshall Mathers is searched for 4400 exacts per month on Google.

I didn't have much on the site and have since added new keywords and a products page selling Eminem related stuff through Amazon so thought with a bit of SEO work i can get a top 10 PR on Google aswell ;)

As for swapping links the only sites i have is 2 mini sites at the moment and that is it i'm afraid.

Again Thanks, Doodlebug

... and I have this (rather old and neglected) page:

Eminem

Come on, you know you want a link exchange!

For getting high PR, you have to get as much inbound links from related sites as possible. This is the only way you can get good PR.

This is true... Also you can try search engine spider simulator and see what counts as content on your website.

Agree, though good, original content also has to be added to this. If you can get both, you're well on your way...

Mike.

Content is king. The rest follows naturally. Google likes 'natural'.

I didn't even know about this simulator.

Thanks Andy

Content is nice if you can get enough fresh with spending lots of time/money.

You can legally copy and paste an article if it's facts has you can't copyright facts.

Obviuosly change it around a bit so Google doesn't turn it's nose up at it ;)

Interesting perspective. I've always thought it was duplication Google objects to, rather than copyright infringement per se. That said, many sites seem to rank very hignly that consist almost entirely of 'borrowed' material... so what do I know? ;-)

Yes, Google objects to it, i was simply pointing out that it's not illegal to copy facts but you must change the way it's laid out eg, headers and titles.

as long as it is original, it will be treated as the content of your website and you will reap the benefits. But if they have been posted already, you will certainly be the loser:).
