I have been quoted a price by an SEO company that guarantees to get me into the top 10 on google after 3 months,

The thing is the set up fee and monthly charges for the first 3 months are in excess of £2000, (£500 per month is paid and after the 3rd month the guarentee comes into place i.e if im not in the top 10 then I get refunded some money)

Is this really worth it, or should I hire an individual or just do it my self?

If it's the company I'm thinking of make sure the guarantee isn't that they will get you top 10 in one search engine out of MSN, Yahoo and Google.

i.e. they normally cover themselves with you being top 10 in msn etc anyway but don't make the guarantee specifically about google.

Personally I wouldn't trust a deal like that.

Feel free to PM me the term or post it here you want to rank for, depending on how competitive it was would dictate what sort of a deal you are being offered and your existing website would be a major factor.

Its definitely for all three: google yahoo and msn,

also if I went with them for a few months and then stopped (if I were to build my own links etc at the same time) would my ranking fall?

they're not quite as competitive as those but I could still make money


its the site in my sig (relatively new) for such keywords as Free gifts, free ipod etc etc

Exactly They called me up and I said I wanted something like 'car insurance' and it was only as the contract came through that the small print basically says if they rank you for your site's name in MSN then there is no refund.

there are no magic bullets in SEO. Go with someone who wants like half the cash in advance, then a certain % upto the other 50% or more if they hit realistic targets in a given timeframe imo.

getting to #1 for a kw can take upto a year with even the most godly and aggressive SEO campaign.. sounds like you are being promised the earth, and the sun and the sky here ....

presumably your desired SERP placement is not for a long-tail keyword?

I actually carry out SEO work for clients (with good solid results - no plug intended )

....but if a company 'guarantee' you results then run.

I would never guaratee a client a position - I am open and honest. I will show examples, I will provide proof of my work, I will work on an hourly rate using the same methodology and effort to achieve the same results.

In fairness Google could change its complete alogorithm tomorrow and where would you stand, what would the small print be etc...

Go with a company who are recommended, who can provide real testimonials, who will be realistic with what they can do - and who don't guarantee you top position (no one can!)

The guarantee is the hook to get you to sign, don't touch them.
Good SEO's don't provide guarantees as they know they cannot be certain of the results.

Look for recommendations and testimonials, good SEO work speaks for itself.

I see companies like this very often. Getting up is not hard sometimes with some Black Hat tricks. If they guarantee your ranking for 6 months to 1 year, their service is more worth it.
