I can't believe that this hasn't been asked before but I couldn't find the answer on the forum so apologies if it has.

How exactly does selling of domain names on Namedrive work (their site doesn't appear to offer much detail). What are the fees involved, what part do Namedrive take re negotiations, commision etc.

I'm pretty knew to this but have read that for Low value co.uk's it just isn't worth considereing sedo as they have an extortionate minimum commission or has this changed?

Thanks in advance

Dave

Customer emails you - you liase with purchaser.

Apart from providing a link, ND do not have any part in any sale.

Thanks, another mystery solved

Whilst on the subject, it would be good if ND were to change the bid amount somehow. I had offer US$1 yesterday and said to buyer that was great I 'd accept, lol. Seriously she said that she put US$1 as had no choice but to put an amount. Why not set a minimum amount people can bid and then at least they get the idea straightaway that we dont sell the domains for paltry amounts ,as some naive buyers seem to be shellshocked when you say anything above £10. At least a minimum on the form would break them in to reality gently and you would then know they were semi serious.

It doesn't work on sedo, so why would it work on ND?

I've had some funny offers for some of my domains, here is my latest, i have changed the domain name and personal details of the requestor to protect the innocent...

Dear NameDrive Customer,

We're delighted to inform you that you have received an offer for flightrelateddomain.co.uk on NameDrive. The interested party sent the following message:

Domain: flightrelateddomain.co.uk
Offer: GBP 1
Name: Denise xxxxx
E-mail: xxxxxxxxxx@xxxxxxxxxx
Phone: xxxxxx xxxxxx
Comment: I am thinking of taking my mother who is 80 to Ireland for a couple of days and her passport is one year out of date. If she has valid photo ID does she need to renew her passport. Kind Regards Denise xxxxx

Please contact us if you want to consult a domain expert on the potential sale. We wish you all the best with the sale!

Best regards,

Your NameDrive team

Please note that the 'reply to' address of this email is that of the potential buyer and not NameDrive. If you would like to contact NameDrive about the sale, please go http://www.namedrive.com/contact_us.php

I'm sure many of you have had enquiries like this, I get one every week or two.

I'm not sure if Newbie's comments are a criticism or an endorsement!

Seriously, we are looking at cleaning this up and redoing the sales page. We are aware that the vast majority of sales offers come via the parked page, so we'd like that offer page to look a little more inviting.

Yes would be good to clean it up a bit, but please assume that most buyers know nothing/not a lot about domain names. Therefore might be worth putting something along the lines. "Domain Names are valuable assets to a company and as such your offer should reflect that. Domain names sell for anywhere from US$100 up to $25,000 or much more depending on the individual name ."

Just my thoughts.

DG,

I'm not sure if you've taken that text from anywhere, but we seriously had exactly that text on there for the first 2 months or so. Then we took it down because to many people complained that every single offer that came in was for $100...
Sigh. Maybe the option to add your own text would be best.

You can NEVER go wrong offering the option of adding custom text - after all, people can then choose your default text or their (believed to be) improved version. Best of both worlds.

LOl, nope that came straight out of my head. Yep I guess that you cannot win either way.Personally then I would dispense with the ability to put any amount in and let them either put it in as a comment or leave it open from the off.

If your reworking the offer page is there any way you can make the offer currency selector adjustable.

All of my domains are .co.uk and most of the people making an offer are from the uk, many times I wonder if the offer they actually made was in pounds but they forgot or just didn't see the selector.

There never going to admit to making a higher offer once they realize there mistake.

Paul ,at the end of the day many of them realise that the figure that they make as an "offer" is simply the beginning of the process of discussion and thus at end of day all that matters is how much they want your domain name. It therefore does not matter if the initial offer is in £ or $ really as in your reply email you can sort all that out,

Not all are savvy but I make you right, all would try it on. I only have one example of a buyer playing this trick but then as seller this is where it went wrong for the buyer. Bids £100 I say enormous £20000 and then they raise to £1000, how did I know that's how far they were going to go? I would have sold it had I known but then even after me tracking down the buyer outside of sedo I still had a chance to sell it at 1k but blew it again haha

I tell a lie, the previous time was a domain bid that started at £200 I came back with £2000 odd, we got to £950 and all went quiet, I managed to sell the domain elsewhere for £100 less to another company but it shows that the games don't always work out, if people went in honest they'd probably conclude business in seconds but everyone wants to be better off, both buyer and seller.

I had one on sedo, bid £30 after fees, well nothing really if I paid transfer fee as well (but who knows - this is sedo so no one knows), they bid £100 so that's a loss of £5.00, they come back with £150 and final offer so I ended the conversation with no reply. I told them £500 including fees beforehand. Their loss.

Hi Ed,

Neither really, just sharing a bit of fun that occasionally lands in my mailbox! I'm pretty sure if someone wanted to buy a domain name off me then they'd make a serious offer from the outset.

The very fact that the option is there for someone to contact me should they be interested is enough for me personally :)

Cheers,

Newbie.

I agree, it only needs touching up slightly, not a major overhaul. I like to have things uncluttered and in plain english, because most prospective buyers know 0 about domain names and thus you have to prod them in the right direction. The only thing that needs thought really is the amount they can offer, and whether that should (a) have option to put either £ or $ amd (b) have a minimum that can be offered.
